I didn't really realise they were a thing, I don't see many Apple laptops out in the wild! The company I work for uses Dell laptops and there's no vertical stands here.
I think with some Macs, namely the MacBook Air, it makes a little more sense as they're passively cooled. But windows laptops are completely different and there really isn't the same kind of reason for it.
I've seen some people in the office using what I'd call 'feet' to mount their laptops vertically, as the new office has 30% smaller desks with 150% wider monitors, so space is at a premium.
Can't see them in our official 'IT catalogue' so they must have sourced them elsewhere or 3D printed them (as some of them are of an engineering background).
A simple laptop stand for when I have got an external screen plugged in, will fit any laptop that is 24mm thick (or less)Needs supports, not really going to bridge that gap easily.
