or maybe these numbers ( a bit old too I guess )

notebook check http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Rad...e.74305.0.html

bf3 7970m xfire = 67 / 680m = 34 / desktop 680gtx =57 http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages...review,18.html
metro 7970m xfire = 54 / 680m = 24 / desktop 680gtx =39 http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages...review,15.html
crysis 2 7970m xfire = 95 / 680m = 49 / desktop 680gtx =63 http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages...review,20.html

Ninjax, your Guru3d links are truncated, thus broken. ; )

Regarding performance of the SLI/XFire mobile setup against a single desktop 680 GTX - yeah, they're pretty equal, or even exceed the numbers of a stock desktop GPU, though I can't check what CPU was used in the G3D review, since it could be a limiting factor.

and yes it could be a limiting factor ( since I dont own any of them yet ) just going by numbers only .....
didnt check the chip used on NBC either yet , lol

as a side note I was comparing single 680m vs desktop 680gtx vs 7970mxfire ..... not a fair comparision
tbh, but hey numbers are numbers , and cash is cash ....

I dont think hot-fix applies that much to the elite model , since it doesnt use enduro , (i could be wrong of course)

Is this the case? Can someone confirm this? This would put my mind at ease a little.
I thought enduro was used on all amd cards whether a single solution or crossfire setup, but I'm not sure tbh.
For me its just another 150 pounds to go between the gtx680m and the dual 7970's. Seems a good deal.....

The P370EM chassis does NOT have Enduro.

I have a P370m from PC specialist , with CF 7970m ; the performance is omg......

Insane having 10,500 ( my best ) 3d mark 11 on a laptop.

The single 680m may be the more robust option , in terms of plug and play, but i have had solid performance and no problems with this laptop and 12.8 install.

So long as you don't just "fiddle about with settings" or install new drivers on top of old drivers , then the 7970m i think is the best choice.

Besides, driver support will only get better, and a single 680m is going to be struggling in two years, where the 7970m, will not be so much.

Just my 5 cents - i did alot of research before buying the p370em, and am so glad i went with CF. Enduro is DEFINATELY not an issue with these- only with 150/170em models.

Anyway hope this helps. If you want any benchmarks let me know

Thanks for that, I think this is the selling point for me now, knowing there is no enduro issues is a big plus. I know there are driver issues, but by the sounds of it they are not too worrying and AMD are on the case to resolve it and hopefully quite soon.

Thanks for your post, I agree in that I want to be able to be playing games at high settings for more than 2 years and I think the crossfire setup will give me that opportunity.
How is the P370M for noise under load? I assume that it would be pretty loud with both cards running at full pull. Do you have a laptop cooling stand, does this help in keeping the laptop cool, thus reducing noise?

I went with the vortex elite in the end with the 7970m's and I'm glad I did. The new 12.11 catalyst drivers have just been released and the results look pretty impressive! Here is a review of the new driver :

I can't wait to try out the elite now!! It''ll be a monster I'm sure :D

Thanks for everyone's input, much appreciated.

Now I just have to wait for it to be built and delivered to Norway.....

Reading on notebook review, this new 12.11 driver seems to be a very good driver, all scores are well up.

On a side note, what's the proper procedure to update your amd driver? It's been years disincentive I had a play with drivers.

I always uninstall the driver before updating,to do this with an AMD driver,
Click on Start
Open the Control Panel
Select Programs and Features
Select AMD (ATI) Catalyst Install Manager
Click on Change
Click on Next when prompted for the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard forAMD Catalyst Install Manager,
Select Express Uninstall All Software
Follow the on-screen directions and restart the system when finished

Hey, i know this thread is a little bit old and people may not be browsing it and stuff. If so however, (This is for all you vortex elite with xfire 7970m's) what is your average battery life? For example say only web browsing? :)

As I'm having the same dilemma I'm gonna bump this because I would love to hear how users that have had the Vortex Elite for a while feel about the crossfire setup and if it was worth picking over a single 680m.
