VRay/CAD/Unreal 5... and maybe the odd game...!

Hi All,

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look over this spec. I work as an industrial designer and branched out post-COVID on my own. Until now I have either been loaned PCs by clients or used my XPS15 laptop but the time has come to invest in a setup that will hopefully enable me to push on.

My work varies from Photoshop/Illustrator work, to 3D software such as Creo, to rendering in 3ds Max using VRay and Corona (which is what really gets too much for the laptop) I'm also looking to get deeper involved in Unreal 5 for visualisation in the near future.

On a side note, I'd like to do more VR presentation work in the future but would be interested to see if you think this spec will handle it or whether a GPU upgrade will be needed in future.

I really want a Threadripper build to take on the heavy lifting of the 3D work, and to keep within the budget of £2750 - £3000 ex VAT CPU and RAM have been prioritised over GPU.

Also - time is of the essence so opting for a graphics card that will involve a wait to get hold of might be tricky.

Please let me know your thoughts:

Some food for thought mate I went with this. Now I'm not happy about the GPU, ideally you want the RTX 3060 but it's not letting me select it at the minute due to being on pre-order but this is the GPU you should be looking for. The extra VRAM is great for what you would be using it for

Secondly I completely changed your storage set up and I went with the coolermaster cooler. The Frostflows just aren't that reliable I've learned from my short time here at the forums. Also went for a bigger better case in the 5000X which is one of the better cases on the market

Really you want a RTX 3060 or an RTX 3070. The 2060 Super just isn't worth the money when it's so close to the 3060 in prices but lacks so much in performance and features in comparison

Thanks mate - really appreciate you taking the time to have a look.

Completely understand your logic here - my only concern is the lead time for the GPU. Does anyone have any examples of recent wait times for the 3060?

Thanks

The 3060 was actually not too bad in terms of stock until the last couple of days. I'd give PCS a ring and see if they have any on the horizon

PCS are predicting a 1-2 month wait so I will have to look at alternatives. In your opinion, is the 6700xt the proper alternative?

Thanks again
