Watercooler on laptop

I can't help feeling Tongfang the people behind the only (currently) laptop with water-cooling capabilities have designed their laptops to require a water-cooler more by default rather than an option, well particularly when it comes to gaming. Maybe this is due to people's need to get the thinnest and lightest possible device (smartphones are similarly designed). So the 17" Recoil I have without the water cooler and running Sniper Elite 5 on Ultra setting constantly reaches 95 Celsius without my air cooler on (about 89 with it on) still not recommended for long-term use, so once I get paid a new water cooler will be coming my way.

Yes, this is definitely the concensus.

95 is the operating temp on the new intels, it will throttle at that point and limit boost frequencies.

Intel claim that's by design but it's marketing gubbins, no cpu should ever Thermal throttle.

So yes, it does seem that for mobile use, it's fine to take the performance hit, but when you're at home and plugged into a power source, it really requires the water-cooler for optimal performance. There's a lot left on the table without it

Yes very much so.

As for now until can afford the water cooler, I've decided to try it at lower settings, after all, I have laid through it all once just trying it t different levels and want to get more gold badges so now at 1960 * 1600 and Medium settings. just to be on the safer side oh and the 60hz screen setting, still looks pretty good.

Not sure if there's anything else I can do.

When you get your water cooler you will probably find it has no instructions with it. I just received mine, it's the later magnetic connector style not the earlier clip-on version. There are instructions but I had to phone up to get them sent to my email address to resolve some issues. (the extra-looking connector in the small plastic bac is there to assist in draining of the fluid, not for everyday use. I did suggest they have the manual to download to save on paper etc, but only time will tell.

PS They expect you to have your laptop on a tabletop etc, not on a lap. so the length of the cables is a bit short. and now they use a pass-through power supply so it uses your laptop power adaptor reducing the need for an extra mains socket.

Update: it only works if you have Bluetooth connectivity which needs to be through the laptop control centre under the Performance section., word of note if you try clicking in Liquid Cooling System Control and nothing happens change Turbo Mode to Balance Mode first.

Manuals would normally be in your online account?

It's not an XMG laptop, you shouldn't be using any XMP programs or software as they're designed for a different BIOS and wont work.

If you were to flash XMG firmware, you will likely brick the device as its for different platforms

Yes, I originally wrote XMG in reference to what the manual was asking me to look for, but afterwards edited it out when I finally found the control centre was already on my laptop.

You would think that's where the manual should have been found, I checked again where I can download all my drivers but still no manual for the water cooler just the laptop welcome manual.

As a further update my water cooler shut down for no apparent reason until I realised the water connector had disconnected and then you have to start anew. The good news what dribbled out was insignificant.

Yes, rhe laptop manual has a section on the watercooler I believe. The watercooler is a required bit of the laptop.

Well as for the laptop manual, all I got was a generic welcome pack manual which is a few years old, it does feature things like repairing the laptop and installing Windows 10 etc but definitely nothing about water cooling.

I agree if you are buying a gaming laptop then the water cooler should be part of the kit.

Does anyone know why the system control refuses to work to allow me to connect through Bluetooth?

The photo attached shows that I've got the words on the screen and clicked them but nothing changes.

I switched Bluetooth off and on again and also turned off power to the water cooler and ended the control program in task manager and restarted but still nothing
I think you've uploaded the wrong image?

Serves me right for not double-checking, thank you for that.

The photo is here now.

Today I managed to do things differently, to ensure I use the water cooler whilst on battery power because I want to increase the longevity of the laptop's battery life. I pulled the mains plug out the laptop then powered up the water cooler and made sure blue light was blinking, then powered up the laptop. by the time the laptop was at the desktop screen, the water cooler had automatically connected.

Yes, I looked at the video, and the interface appears slightly different because it's for the earlier version.
