Hi all,

I have an Optimus 17.3" (as below). Bought in April 2018
In June 2018 the screen developed a fault and had to be repaired/replaced.
I have never had any need to use the integrated webcam. Consequently, it was never used or tried... until yesterday. When trying the installed camera app, the message showed "We can't find your camera" with an error code "0xA00F4244<NoCamerasAreAttached>".
I've done the usual Device check - there's absolutely no sign of a camera there.
As the laptop has never left my lounge (other than the screen repair), and has suffered no physical stress - my guess is that it was not connected properly by PCS when the laptop had its screen replaced. Of course, I can't be certain!

My question:
Rather than returning it to PCS to be fixed, is it a simple job to locate and get to the webcam connector in an Optimus?
I am quite handy with a screwdriver and delved inside PCs, so am quite happy to try the DIY option - providing the connector isn't tucked away under 50 or so components that need removing. Or, should I go through the inconvenience, and cost, of returning it to PCS for repair?

Thanks for any help.

Steve

This could be a software issue, it has happened before although not often. You could try installing free webcam software and then seeing if the camera is recognised by the machine.

Thanks for your reply, Stephen.
I really don't think it's a s/w problem. I've looked in Device Manager and there's no sign of a camera. Windows Camera s/w can't find a camera, and Skype says "Camera, no device found".
Edit: Comment not applicable!

Now I feel stupid!!!!
Thanks Bastet. I didn't even think to check the Function key - duh!! I stupidly assumed that if there's a camera it would show in Device Manager - you live and learn!
Think I'd better edit my previous post about my previous PCS experience:oops:
Thanks again
