Good afternoon,

I am a uni student and want a better desktop than my current one. I am an Architectural Technology student and will be using programs such as Revit, InDesign and other rendering software so I'd like a setup which can run all of these programs and more, as smoothly as possible. I don't mind about the budget as I will eventually have the money, and I want an idea of how much an overpowered system will cost me to then last me for years. I currently have a good desktop, but it can always be improved.

If there are any other suggestions please let me know,

Thank you so much.

There's no good way to answer this. You can't say "this is how much a good system costs" because it always depends on how you're going to use it. If you were doing high-end rendering stuff, you would ultimately be going with Threadripper Pro and spending £10,000. Or you could get a system that will do a perfectly adequate job for £2,000. It all depends on your budget and how you want to use it. For gaming, it depends on your monitor. And what the right system is will depend heavily on when you actually buy it. New technology is coming out all the time.

Your system is still a strong one. You could upgrade it very easily: stick a 5950X in it, upgrade the CPU cooler, upgrade the RAM if you need to, and add a much stronger graphics card (a second-hand 3090 or a 4080 would both be excellent options, though you'll have to check compatibility with that case) and save thousands over buying a whole new system.

That said, if you do want to buy a whole new system, right now you'd be looking at somewhere in the £3,500-4,000 range for something top-of-the-line. But I wouldn't go for the system you've specced above: you can do much better than that!
