What I'm playing

I did a thread like this a while back, but couldn't find it, so it was probably wayyyy too far back to necro!

To paraphrase comedy legend Jesse from The Fast Show, "this month I'are mostly playing..."

Hogwarts Legacy
Redfall
Romancelvania

With it being October, I wanted to play something a little spookier than I usually do, while also trying to clear some of the more than 1,100 games that are in my active backlog - ie games I've started, but not finished.

I finished Hogwarts Legacy's story (for the first time), a while back but haven't got around to getting all the collectables, or done the shortened playthroughs with the other houses to get the game 100% completed. That should be happening this month!

Redfall features vampires, so is very much a potential Halloween-type game. I've played the opening hour or so, and can see why the game came in for criticism, but having picked the game up on heavy sale since the final update was released, I do think I'll get decent value for money from my time with the game in October.

Fighting vampires is all well and good, but how about playing as THE vampire? Romancelvania is a dating sim/platformer featuring Dracula. It places Drac into a TV-dating show and has gone out of its way to be tongue-in-cheek and more than a little absurd. It's not scary, but more lightly creepy and so will probably be what I'll play towards the end of the month as a palate cleanser heading into November.

As I posted elsewhere, my wishlist was getting on for 2,000 games earlier this week (1954 to be precise!) and I've been working on shrinking the list. I found a load of games I added back in 2022 have been offically abandoned, or haven't had updates of any kind since then.

I'm now down to 1804, so 150 games removed from the list. It seems I went a bit nuts during June 2022's Steam Next fest as I've got a huge number of games I added to the wishlist that month. I've queued up a bunch of demos which I'll tackle as and when I feel the urge!

I am now playing (or trying to play) Hearts of Iron IV when I am not on watch or asleep.

In the three weeks I've been at work, I've played for just over an hour.

I'm playing fast and loose with life, it's an ok game, I keep dying though.

I'm not currently playing anything, I've been messing around with Linux, and then failing with the headset. I really want a new GPU to have spanky graphics again.

Having given up on Starfield when i realised i was choosing missions the same way i choose housework tasks, I've picked up Jagged alliance 3 in the steam sale. It's very pleasingly oldschool so far and should cover me until Stalker 2, Indiana Jones and The Precinct arrive.

Jagged Alliance 3 is one of the games currently on the library, however, as a perfectionist, I will have restarted it at least 50 times—I will never finish it.

Next on the list is Frostpunk 2, the first one I wore out, along with This War of Mine. I like 11 bit studios very much :)

You need to go the whole hog here, pull out the big guns, promise diamonds or the Caribbean, then later say you meant it for when you’ve retired.
Going to a fight with a Ukrainian woman who is twice my weight is not a wise decision right now.

When she's angry, she becomes like a bull that has seen red and is charging. :ROFLMAO:

Besides, it's an uneven fight; it's two against one given that Black, the fifty-kilos puppy, only understands russian language currently, and I don't speak it.

Yes, but at the very least, you have a platform; I'm stuck on a laptop, and my wife's veto for a normal PC is nearly certain. :ROFLMAO:
Oh the joys of being "Young, Free, and Single", I told my girls several years back, "I'm going to enjoy your inheritance while I'm fit enough to do so, and you can argue over the tech and bikes etc when I'm gone"

Thanks for getting involved with my nonsense again!

I enjoy all of Paradox's games, but HOI IV is probably the one I've played least - I enjoyed HOI2 the most from that series!

I've nearly finished playing the spirit and the mouse, it's been a fun game
I need to get around to playing that!

Once I've finished the above games, I'm going to re-download Starfield and give the new DLC a try.

I couldn't get into JA3, which is a shame as I loved JA2!

On the positive side of things, my wishlist is down to 1650 games so I'm continuing to chip away at it.

Less good though is that I'd not realised that the latest Steam Next Fest is next week and if previous events are anything to go by, there's likely to be 50 to 100 new additions going onto the wishlist.

I've got a few games on the go

Genshin Impact - anime stuff isn't my usual thing but I quite like this. PAIMON is pretty funny tbh.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - giving it a third playthrough now that I can play it maxed out. Might actually get platinum this time!
Dragon's Dogma 2 - dipping in and out of this but travel is so tedious I kind of get sick of it.
Eve Online - been playing since the start but usually only play it seriously every couple of months
Mass Effect Legendary Edition - working my way through the first one again. Starting to get hooked!
Throne and Liberty - the new MMO from Amazon. Graphically very nice but it could not be more generic in terms of story/art direction.
