This isn't correct, the 5900x is almost exactly the same performance and cheaper than the 12700k. Plus motherboards on AMD are cheaper and higher quality.

Bear in mind this video was when the 12700k first launched, the 5900x is now on average £30 cheaper
Can't fault my 5900x

Thank you very much for taking the time to help out with this, I really do appreciate it. The cooler not being sufficient enough was something I wouldn’t have thought of outside of “Hey that thing looks tiny inside that massive case”.

I will 100% look into all these parts abit better than I have thus far so again thank you.

Please @FinalVII , the Intel vs AMD debate really is subjective, and if you personally favour Intel, then go with the 12700k, performance wise they really are neck and neck. A lot of my fellow regular posters will be horrified with me suggesting a 1 1/2 year old platform, but energy efficiency is really important to me to the point I'd happily sacrifice performance for a greener rig (not that you would be sacrificing any performance going with AMD).

Intel have the benefit of more M2 slots, AMD have better VRM support and driver compatiblity. You'll pay less for the same or better quality on AMD, and it uses less energy.
Oh I totally understand it, AMD has always served me well and I think I’ll 100% stick with that having watched the video you posted. Thank you very much for posting it, defo cleared a worry I was now having.

Nah he favoured AMD and I was trying to talk him out of it
I thought Intel had a clear lead unless looking at the 5950X
It's complicated because of Intels architecture.

They use a big / little design where you have Power cores (or big cores) and Efficient cores (or little cores).

With big / little designs, the e (little) cores are purely there to offload low power processes that are running in the background so that more high priority main tasks can be performed by the big cores.

Big / Little has been around for decades, but started out really in mobile SOC's.

Really, up until Intel's 12th Gen, when referring to the core count on a big / little design, you specify the big cores separately from the little cores. And it's really only the big cores that contribute to outright power.

As such, the 12700k is NOT a 12 core chip as it's advertised, because it only has 8 big cores and 4 little cores. It's an 8 core chip by usual standards.

The 12900k is the same tier as the 5900x, and it's direct comparison. For multithreaded workloads, it wins out. But for gaming, efficiency cores have no benefit whatsoever and will actually reduce gaming performance in some games. It's generally recommended on a purely gaming system (competitive) on intel to disable the e cores for better performance. The 12900k over the 12700k, simply adds 4 more e cores, so has almost zero benefit for gaming. So it's pointless comparing it to the 5900x in that aspect.

The 12700k is Intels premium gaming CPU, the 5900x (and now the 5800x3d) are AMD's top tier gaming cpu's.

For gaming, 24GB of VRAM will not get used, I doubt even 4 years from now 24GB of VRAM will get used for gaming, and even if it does there will be more powerful cards at that time that will put the 3090 to shame and be much cheaper,

I say this as I'm a gamer that is plays games at 4K resolution with a 3080TI and i only see around 8 and a half to 10 and a half GB of VRAM being used on my 12GB VRAM 3080Ti,

4K is more demanding than 1440p, so i would think that the VRAM usage at 1440p for gaming would be lower than at 4K,

I would also recommend a 3080 / 3080Ti for that awesome G9 monitor.

Thank you for clearing that up,I was for sure missing a few other factors when it came to the VRAM. I was just trying to get the best I could on the last build I have before all money gets sunk into a second child 🤣 for the next 18+ years. I’ll admit it was a case of go balls to wall within reason and get the sort of system you’ve always dreamed of while you have the capital and the ability too but I get it’s abit overkill.

Ah. Now I (sort of) understand.

I would do things a little differently. Very similar vein but not quite as extreme on the splurging. It genuinely isn't worth it, there's no objective reason to go past the 3080. For vanity and splurging sake I've opted for the STRIX model though, which is very pretty.

I would genuinely use the rest of the money to put towards a G9 Neo. Now that's how you spend some money :D

The difference in price between the 3080 and the 3090 is currently £900!! So, if you can overcome the "I want the most expensive" urge, then you can pretty much buy the best monitor on the market with that price saving alone....and the Samsung G9 will give you infinitely more joy than a 3090 will :D
I actually already own the G9 🤣 and a few other monitors, the G9 purchase was the result of my partner having reached her limit on me buying monitors which slowly kept creeping up towards the G9. In the end she just said you should just buy the one you want instead of wasting money trying to find something cheaper you like.

If that's the case you really want and aren't bothered by spending a lot extra for no other reason than "I prefer the look of it", then go for it. Far as I am aware, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the C700M...just that it is extremely expensive without adding anything to justify the cost of it. Well, that and the fact it is much larger than most cases, weighs 52lb empty and needs to be delivered on a pallet (which you would need to get rid of yourself it seems)
Luckily enough for me I built a fence in my back garden from pallets to keep the dog off the play area and a few panels need replacing so it actually works out pretty well🤣

Yeah the C700M is because the newer version of a case I remember longing for when I was younger and couldn’t afford so it kinda ticks the days gone by box.

I won’t lie the weight is abit of a worrry because the G9 isn’t exactly a lightweight monitor so I dread to think how much weight the desk will be holding.

I fully admire your dedication to the dream.

If the cosmos is your dream case, go for it, absolutely.

I'm the proud owner of a G9 also, really want to get a deskmount for it as the stand is huge and takes up half the space but the one I want is near £300. There aren't many deskmounts that will support the weight.

The C700M is a fantastic case, a proper piece of engineering.

However..... it's ridiculously over-priced, not very pretty and absolutely massive. I would definitely measure out where you're putting the PC just to get an idea of how big it is.

The 5000X (or 500D SE) would be my choice of case regardless as they are absolutely stunning.

Haha see I think it’s absolutely beautiful 🤣 the curved glass panels, the only other cases I’m a fan of, that really caught my eye is the HAF 700 Evo from Cooler Master or the the Omen Cyrochamber.

The HAF I don’t believe is available atm and the Cyrochamber was meant to have an ATX version released but heard nothing more about.

Oh I was tempted for about 4 minutes to wall mount the G9 and was ABSOLUTELY terrified at the prospect of doing it, I couldn’t get past the “you’re going to hear a crash in the night and it’s either come off the mount or you need to get a plasterer in as you’re missing part of you’re wall”. That little cone like bracket didn’t inspire confidence.

Yes the stand is bloody massive and the legs ridiculously intrusive but I get why they have to be.
