I really want to avoid a clean install if I can help it lol. last resort but will wait and see what other people comment. thanks for the video link!I remember hearing about this problem a while back, I think there was a problem with the images being used for the installs for a bit (cant remember the timeframe though).
I believe a Windows clean install fixes it - though obviously this would mean you'd have to save anything important, because it involves wiping the OS drive.

Probably worth waiting for others to reply first though as they may know of some easier/simpler solutions, or they may just say that I'm barking up the wrong tree entirely

Yeah this very much looks like the problem that was in the thread I linked where in the end a full clean reinstall was needed (just as Spydertracks said above)
