Would this Spec be good for editing and gaming?

I will be editing on Avid, Premiere Pro and After Effects in 1080p HD quality with potentially 4k as well. I also would like to play games like GTA and Call of Duty: MW on it so want it to be able perform well when either editing or gaming. Is this spec good?

If you click "post to forum" and then copy and paste all the data including the link it allows us to go in and propose builds for you with ease.

The build looks pretty solid, will perform admirably for your uses. You may wish to consider a scratch drive, especially for the 4K editing. A 250GB Samsung Evo Plus would do the job nicely.

The only other thing I would recommend would be to increase the speed of the RAM to the maximum. I think it's 2666 for this Laptop.

Personally, I'd go with the AMD CPU over the Intel one...more cores, higher base clock and slightly cheaper. Unless Intel is better in this scenario?

Thx for your advice, im probably wrong but i think ive seen that the intel one is a tiny bit faster than the amd equivilant. Also id rather have an intel one personally 😂

It won't be faster for full blown rendering as more cores means more powaarrrr. With Avid Intel is signed off though so you will find better support. AMD has not been verified (even although it will work fine).

Ohhh ok thanks i understand now haha! I'll definitely have a look at it but if I decide to not go with the AMD processor, will the laptop ive made still perform very well when editing and playing games? (I will also bump up the RAM to 2666) Im only wanting to be sure because this is a laptop for University and I dont want to be stressing about how laggy it is or something like that when I have to be editing film! 😂

Yes, it'll be absolutely fine. It's exactly what I would recommend. If editing is a main use though you're going to want to consider a scratch drive. If you need to make some budget available you could select the PCS equivalents from the M2 menu.

With that in mind you probably won't need it. Are you learning to use the applications that you have quoted in your first post via Uni?

A scratch drive is basically an over-spill for RAM. Most video editing software, Avid especially, loves RAM and gobbles it up. When you hit 4K and want previews with effects you need tonnes of RAM. If you don't have enough, the software will spill onto your primary drive (unless told otherwise). The primary drive is handling everything and as you can only do one thing at a time, your software can end up in a queue..... which may cause pausing etc with previews and slightly slower rendering times etc.

If you have a "Scratch" drive, it allows the RAM to be written to this drive which it has exclusive access to (no queuing). If you have a fast scratch drive, you get closer to the speed of RAM than you would from a slower drive. Faster the better as you'll never match the RAM from a drive.

You may learn about this during your studies and you can add the scratch drive at any point if you chose to
