Well, if you have a legitimate CD Key but somehow damaged your disc you could simply download the evaluation version of windows 7 and activate it with your CD Key - I don't see why that would be illegal?

I did not realise they offered a download trial version of Windows.

They do it with Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 Enterprise, etc - So I assumed they did.
