Morning guys,

I’d like to have some recommendations to buy my second PCS pc (the first was for my sister and she loves it).

The use case is pretty clear: just playing World of Warcraft (Classic and Shadowland) on LG 34’ - 3440x1440 @60 Hz).The budget is £1500.

I’ve tried to configure something out but I’m not an expert so apologies if the chosen components don’t make sense.
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions, thanks!

Hi :) As you can see from the above my recommended specs, you need to up your budget.

B450 motherboard is the bottom line, B550 is recommended as a standard. 3600X is previous generation. 5600X doesn't cost much more, but is considerably better.

To save some money, I changed 3600 Ram to 3200. However, you could even drop RGB Ram to non-RGB.

2060 GPU is for 1080p, maybe some older 1440p games, but not for 4k. While 4K should require Nvidia 3080 or Amd 6800XT, if you want to sacrifice some fps, 3070 or 6700XT could do.

One storage isn't recommended. Better have one super fast for OS and another for everything else. Ideally, If, budget allows, instead of HDD should be Sata SSD, but that also depends on your own personal needs for storage.

450W PSU will not power your PC. Best is at least 850W to have some space for future upgrades. RMx is best PSU series from Corsair: cool, quiet and quality parts. I wouldn't risk using your 450W CV in a gaming PC - it's more for extreme budget PC or just office PC.

Not necessary, but I added an aftermarket cooler. It would be my preference over a stock cooler. However, stock cooler, which comes with 5600X is quite good.

Changed wifi to AX which is dual band, support faster wifi and has a Bluetooth too.

If you have an option to transfer a Windows 10 license from your old machine which you will no longer use, you can do that - means don't need to buy a license from PCS and that would save you money. But it means you'd need to configure a PC with drivers etc yourself when a PC arrives.

Hi @Citrus_9,

Thank you very much for the time you dedicated to answer my request, your recommended build is splendid and all your points make absolute sense.

Following your suggestions I made a few changes:
- RAM not RGB (I'm not very fond of the rainbow builds)
- I've chosen a faster (and smaller) storage drive - my needs in terms of storage are very limited.

Could you please double-check the configuration, in case I made some terrible mistake, before I purchase it? Thanks!

@Bhuna50 has a very good point here 👍

Now it looks much better 😍

Now the last thing is to do a quick web search how many average fps you'd be getting on 5600X with 3070 and with 6700XT to decide which one is best for you. Would also be interesting to compare with 3080 and 6800XT if you're willing to consider these options too (as they are pricier).

LOL. I didn’t do anything. Although I like the thought of saying I helped build a PC for £2 as that’s all I spent/amended [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Why recommend this? Is this not overkill considering your never really going to see any speed boots from a 3000mbs and a 5000mbs unless you moving very large 12gb files

@HelloLuca
Save yourself some money for elsewhere on your build and lower the top spec Storage in your load out.

Because you’d have that particular drive as the primary. Just the OS and programs on it. The video you linked doesn’t show the area that we’re interested in, which is boot time. You’ll be at your home screen within seconds of powering on with the 980 🙂👍

Thanks @Mashup47 for the suggestion but I'm personally leaning towards the previous recommendations and I'd stick with a faster M2 drive which (as far as I've understood) should improve the startup times.

Have a good day,

I would rather double the storage then have windows boot up 3 seconds quicker.
for then same price of the recommended "500GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 6900MB/R, 5000MB/W)" you can get the 1tb intel 670p
But hay not my money :)

It's not just Windows startup that a fast system drive helps with, a read or write to/from the system drive by either Windows or any installed app will be faster, that all helps the system feel snappier. Disk I/O is the slowest component of any PC and you really want the fastest drive you can afford for Windows and programs. :)

on top of that, both new consoles are running SSDs now, it is quite fair to assume that new games gonna start utilizing faster SSDs and even requiring them.
A good example is FF14 new expansion. The game released on PS5 last week. The director Yoshi P said that thanks to the optimalization they did for PS5, PC will now massively benefit from faster storage.

i know he is buying the SSD for booting, but he could still plop there a game or two.

Thanks to everyone for the time you dedicated in helping me choose the right PC.

I've taken into consideration all your recommendations (but opted for the initial double M2 drive option) and I've proceed with purchase.

Have a good day everyone,

Believe me, having OS in a super fast drive is an undescribable pleasure. 7 seconds - that's all it takes to turn on and load my PC from a complete shut down. While my old laptop is taking somewhere from 2 minutes to 4 minutes, if it desires to have a break in between the tasks. With even less programmes than I have in this new PC.

Very fast M.2 SSD is a pleasure you can't describe with words, especially for me, who gets frustrated quite easily, if something is loading on the screen longer than I would expect.

It's just a comfort.

P.s., even more convenient is speeds during OS updates! No more wasted time looking at those percents and wondering how much longer need to wait.
