Wrong cooler?

I ordered the triple copper cooler as an upgrade for my stock intel, opened up box and became stuck as to how i install it :p
Then looked at the box and it doesn't say its suitable for an i5 2500 which is socket 1155? It says it will fit i5 up to 750s, have i been sent the wrong one? If not please help me install :D

So it should fit!

Basically you just carefully remove the old cooler and replace it with your new cooler. The screws on the TITAN cooler are tool free and should slot in the same holes as your previous cooler (looking at the pics anyway). Check it has the correct pins installed for Intel applications (as this cooler can fit AMD chips too - see the manual), if you are unsure you could fit the screws to the cooler, hold it against your CPU and check to see if they line up with the holes in your motherboard.

After removing your old cooler, give your CPU a clean and then apply some thermal paste, I'm not sure if its best to apply it directly to the CPU or to the copper heat sink on the cooler itself but I'm sure google can tell you some opinions (I tend to apply to the heat sink as its easier to clean off if I mess it up). Then carefully place your cooler over the CPU and tighten the screws in a cross pattern.

Thanks for the reply mate. I don't have clips on the new cooler, it is thumb screws with hard springs and my mobo does not seem to have threads for the screws? Product number ttc-nk36tz/rpw(ku). Sorry for not giving to much info, on the phone.... image.jpgimage.jpg

All I can think of is trying the instructions from the manual (push and you'll hear a click) that way the threads should extend out of the bottom of the cooler as your pushing it through the mobo. Do you have a backplate at all? That's usually where the threads will be (or they were with my mobo anyway). If it doesn't engage with the mobo you'd best give PCS a ring tomorrow incase we are missing something (obvious or not) or whether there has been some mistake and unfortunately the cooler wont fit.

Well........I had to take my mobo out! Hard work and i broke a sata port :( But i think i got all wires back to the correct place etc. :D There was a back plate at the bottom of the cooler box under some sort of trapdoor haha!

Well it now appears that the cooloer is stuck on full at around 2100 rpm, i went into the bios and got the numbers from there and could not change the speed :/ Any ideas?

CRAP! Sorry for not replying sooner (was totally in my cot for the night)

I've no clue mate, major bad times breaking a SATA port :( did you notice damage on any other component when you had the mobo out?

Does the bios recognise the fan is plugged in? The fan should be controllable by the motherboard and register its speed (I think...) so shouldn't be stuck on 100%.

I'm not sure I've heard anyone say that their PC doesn't stay switched off before! At least it is coming back on! Quick google of the issue came up with http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/265579-12-computer-runs-fine-stay-turned a few things are suggested in there.

I would probably call PCS technical support today though and get their opinions before doing anything hasty.

Hey tom Its plugged into the cpu fan :DIts a bit less than 2100 rpm tonight, currently sitting at 1900 i think.

I also fixed the power situation.....had those tiny wire plugged in the wrong spaces, didn't realise there was writing on the mobo for 'powersw' power led' etc.

well, you could use Asus probe II, off ya motherboard disk OR find ya mobo on the Asus site, then dl the most recent install of Asus probe II - I'd do this one.

Then, install, use "fan expert", and have a play with the cpu fan profile, I'd start by setting it to turbo. When you feel more experienced you could set your own profile for it.

You can also use this to set profiles for your other case fans, (unless you use a fan controller)
