It's weird, all my desktops have been AMD and all my laptops have been Intel and I don't really have a preference, that being said, the ability to charge via thunderbolt is a bit of a deal breaker as I dont want to get 3 years down the line and be unable to replace the charger.
If I take the AMD CPU I cant get the thunderbolt interface though. I noticed the thickness of the Ionico and did think that it would overheat which is why I started looking at the Recoil.
Why would you choose the AMD CPU over the Intel CPU?
What about the IONICO? It has the full 3080 (not the MAX-Q), it has an Intel processor so can charge 100w thunderbolt charging, I would have to take the hit on the speed of the m.2 drive, and the chassis looks a bit cheap when compared to the RECOIL. Still means I can have a 17" screen, 165Hz i7...
I don't really have a budget but the less I can spend the better, I initially didn't want to spend more than £1k, but here we are haha!

Thanks for the replies, yes it needs to be a laptop, I travel with work so need a laptop, when I am traveling it is onboard a ship so the weight or portability of it doesn't really matter as once it's set up, it's staying like that for a few months.
I don't NEED an i9, there just didn't seem to...
Hi TRON1982,
Thank you for the in depth review! I have been looking at this laptop for some time and trying to justify the price of the laptop, also looking to get the i9, cause at that point, the extra cost is a drop in the pond.
Just wondering, is the power brick a Usb-c charger? I am...
Thoughts on this unit? Is it over the top or okay? My last laptop was a Dell and has lasted me 10 years so time for an upgrade. I'd like to say I do some heavy gaming but probably more Adobe work and a little fps on the side.
