If you can, get some photos of all the packaging and upload to the thread through a 3rd party image site. It may help PCS as they could try and shift any losses to FedEx (which is probably becoming a habit)
Hi All,
Those with much more knowledge than me, do you expect we will see new AMD CPU / 3070 GPU combos or have intel put a monopoly on the new graphics cards like they did with previous gen? Is it too early tell?
I know it’ll probably be 2022 and lockdown 17 before I could get my hands on one...
what is it about intel you like? If you like the performance they used to have then I absolutely agree with you, however that performance now just doesn’t exist and AMD blow them out of the water in every department. When you’re PC has a cooler on top of it and you’re in the midst of a 5 hour...
for £2000 you have the perfect budget for a 1440p machine & monitor. Are you set on 1080p? There’s no reason why you should be unless you play competitively.
if I were you I’d keep the 1080p Monitor for browsing etc and purchase a new 1440p one for gaming.
the biggest recommendation I can give...
Since you’ve joined this forum you’ve added a fair amount of hostility towards helpful volunteers who go out of their way to offer genuine advice to those who don’t have custom PC expertise. You mention stress but I think you are the only one showing signs?
OP - you would be wise to follow...
Ah, ok. In that case I’d definitely go with an AMD Ryzen CPU with a slightly weaker GPU. You’d still have the gaming horsepower for gaming but would be significantly better with thermals, security and is cheaper.
So thunderbolt increases lifespan because you can plug GPUs in directly...
I think it all comes down to whether you’d like a gaming laptop to code on, or a coding laptop to occasionally game on.
If gaming you would want the best GPU possible as it’s soldered down and will be the first bottleneck. Your final vyper spec with the 2070 would be ideal however I’d change...
Please ignore the advice above.
Don’t drop the motherboard to the B450, stick with the B550. The B550 will allow you to upgrade to next gen Ryzen CPUs and massively increase the lifespan of your machine.
For the GPU, I can’t see whether the monitor you’ve gone for is 1080p 60 hz or 1080p...
Just to add, you should easily be able to run ARK (if that’s what you meant) at high settings on your GTX1080 at 1080p. It seems a bit off and suggests that something else is up with your system. Are your GPU drivers up to date?
That’s a mobile GPU - there’s no real ‘thing’ of being too powerful for the screen in a laptop form factor. You will struggle to hit 144fps, which is the screens limit, on the most demanding newer titles anyway (control etc).
The desktop variant of the 2070 is the perfect 1440p/144hz card...
Please don’t buy this! I will leave it to one of the experts to come back but to name a couple of issues the RAM & GPU are not what you (or anybody) would want
That’s all meant that current prices have all gone up. If I was in your position with a very capable machine and not needing to upgrade immediately (though the temptation can be too much sometimes!) I would wait for prices to settle back down, though I admit we don’t know when this will be, and...
