I'm having trouble with the 'W' key on my laptop 'sticking'. It isn't physically sticking down, however after I release the key and it 'pops' back up, wwwwwwww continues to happen, or in game I will continue sprinting. It does feel warm to touch, but i think this is a combination of the hardware located under it, and the fact the finger is constantly pressing it. The laptop is adequately cool and my temp checker always reads a comfortable temp.

I've tried to blow it out, update drivers etc but its still having the problem. I think that my only option is a new keyboard, which i'm prepared to pay for but am struggling to source a genuine one, as the laptop is 5 years old now. I have seen on a few forums that the Clevo P670 has the same keyboard as the Clevo P650 and I have managed to locate a genuine brand new UK one of these. Before I purchase i'm just hoping that someone can confirm this for me.

I've made a few upgrades to the laptop and it wasn't cheap to begin with, other than the keyboard it is perfect condition and very well looked after so i'm not prepared to right it off over this.

P650 Keyboard P/N: 6-80-P6500-190-1
I can't find a P/N for the P670.

Thanks,
Amber

Thanks for the responses.
In case anyone comes across this thread PCS responded to me and confirmed that 6-80-P6500-190-1 does fit in the P670 so i've ordered a genuine one from ebay.

Hi!
I replaced it and it was very easy to do, but unfortunately the problem is still there. It's not as bad, but after half an hour of gaming it starts 'sticking' again. I've just been playing with a wireless keyboard rested on top.

The seller was called 'genius parts' but for some reason I can't find them now and my old order info isn't showing? Very odd - sorry I can't post a link for you. It was £99 and looks identical to the one I took off.

Thanks,
Amber

£99 for a keyboard is crazy, they’re usually around £30 new.

The problem is not the cost of the keyboard, is that changing the keyboard is not a fix...thanks a lot PCS....
You should contact PCS for an RMA if the keyboard doesn't fix it or even before. PCS should be your first call.

How can you blame PCS when you haven't even contacted them?

I did contact them this is the replay
''We are really sorry to hear about that.

Unfortunately, we do not offer the keyboard for this system anymore, but you could probably find one on the internet which fit the system''

As I bought my laptop in 2017 they just cannot help...

But what did you ask them? Did you ask for an RMA or just for a replacement keyboard?

I did ask for a solution from them like were to buy a new keyboard or if they can do the repair themselves with me paying of course and i got back just the replay that they cannot help and to look online for a new keyboard but seeing as this is not a fix like Ambslolx said is just annoying me.

Ok, lets take this back to square one.

1/. Don't base your scenario off the OP's, it's very possible they're 2 completely separate issues.

2/. Have you been to the upgrades section on your PCS account? Are there definitely no replacement keyboards listed?

3/. If the keyboard didn't fix the issue above, that would suggest it's a software issue and a windows reinstall would be the next troubleshooting step.

A bit less likely to be a different scenario as I have same problem like Ambslolx with ''W'' key sticking, I did check my PCS account and no keyboards available all of them are out of stock, so going to reinstall my windows and I will come back with an update but I don't have big hopes, thanks a lot for your support you did a lot more that sending me to find a new keyboard online.

No worries. When you reinstall windows, just install drivers through windows update (may have to connect via cable to router if wifi isn't installed), then install nvidia driver direct from nvidia.

Then try the keyboard and see if it's still sticking.

If it is, then that does suggest a hardware issue.

An original new keyboard can be found here:

Eurocom are official Clevo parts stockists based in Germany who serve the whole of Europe, they are pricey and it does appear that @ambslolx is completely correct, a replacement keyboard is in fact £100 as an official part which is just crazy!

Just to chime back in, I performed all of the suggested solutions here and those by PCS specialist, which in a nutshell were: Blow out with air, update drivers, and re-install windows. Their last resort was replacing the keyboard, which I was willing to try.

I did hours of digging and found various foreign forums where people were encountering the same problems as us. I tried last night to find the link again but it was so hard to find in the first place. The short and sweet of it is that the GPU or CPU (sorry I cant remember the specifics) is located underneath where the W key is, during gaming/editing (any demand) this gets hot and causes a virtual sticking effect. Someone had successfully lifted the keyboard, as though to replace it, and created some kind of heat sync to stop it getting so hot under there. I believe he used foil and thermal paste. I will try again to find it but with this info maybe you can find it?

This was going to be my next step, however lock down lifted and furlough ended so I don't have as much time for gaming and my wireless keyboard is fine. When using it I just turn of the laptop keyboard so as not to double press.
I obviously don't want to be the one to tell you this and you break your laptop (although I think this a very low risk procedure) but my stance was, I'm already well out of warranty (brought in DEC 2015) my only sure fire way of 'fixing' the problem is a new laptop so I didn't have to much to loose. Over Christmas I plan on trying to resolve the problem via the above method when i'm of work and have more time. Having already spent £100 on the new keyboard that doesn't fix the problem I've got to draw the line somewhere and admit its time for a new gaming laptop.

You can get thermal insulation sheets like this, just cut to size:

I can't say for sure if that would be effective enough in warding off the heat transfer to that area of the keyboard, but it's cheap enough to be worth a try. Unforrtunately it's only available in packs of 5 sheets.

The other thing to do is monitor temps when on idle and under load. It may be that it needs a repaste of the CPU and that's why temps are higher than normal. If you haven't done that in the life of the laptop then it certainly needs doing, should be done every year really.

I would recommend Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste if you choose to repaste, it's not expensive from somewhere like amazon:

You can monitor temps with HWMonitor:
