4090 Gaming PC Spec

Hey guys,

I was hoping to get some advice on my spec, really appreciate it!

  • It will be predominately for gaming, I play ARPG/Triple As, for example Diablo 4 ( I know 4090 will be overkill, but also aim to play new Space Marines/Black Ops 6 when they release). I will also watch Netflix/YT on this and work wise (email, photoshop, Chrome) but not massively demanding as photoshop wise is just beginner level for me.
  • My budget is up to 4k
  • I have pre-ordered the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM monitor, which I think will work perfectly with 4090.
  • I wanted to go for the Phanteks NV5 case, really love the design of it.
  • The case does fit 8 fans, but on the congifuration I could only select 6, so unsure if I could add two extra?
  • Unsure on whether the motherboard is the best suitable?
Thank you so much :)

I would go along with something like the below. I would contact PCS to see their reasoning for the H150i not being compatible, seems like a strange issue to me. I've selected the H115i for now, but the H150i would offer a better aesthetic.

I wouldn't go with your selected case. It's very budget. Better to get a premium option for a premium build (selected below) with a similar aesthetic.

Hey Scott,

Thank you for sharing!

Yeah the case is on the budget level (except just it doesn't come with fans so would have the cooler plus 5) but, I just really like the design, I have checked some reviews and they seem to be positive. Do you think the case could cause long term issues with heat or situations like this?
I'll double check the motherboard and H150i with PC Specialist as well.

Just regarding the power supply, would you say 1200 is right way to go instead of 1000?

Thanks again Scott for help :)

It's a good case for a budget, but this isn't a budget build so I wouldn't opt for a budget offering. It's detrimental to the overall build and with a heavy duty GPU like the 4090, you're going to be testing its performance headroom. A tried and tested case such as the 6500X would offer a guaranteed safety margin. You'll get better acoustics, better usability and better features with the 6500X, sure you pay for them but it's well worth it IMO.

1000w is cutting it fine in an ATX2.0 PSU. You can get double the draw during spikes which can cause issues. The 1200w PSU is an ATX3.0, which has margin for these spikes already built in to allow brief spikes. It's not so much the power that's the issue, it's the variant. The 1200w is the latest ATX3.0 standard.

Awesome thank you so much! I also saw your post on storage, would you advise 2TB on the 1st SSD drive is also a good option?

Okay awesome thank you Martin I see :)
The only thing is regarding the motherboard (ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI) it doesn't seem to go with the cooler I wanted (iCUE H150i ELITE LCD RGB CPU Cooler).

I've just updated the build spec following Scott's help, but just changed the 4090 to the ASUS version has I believe they do OC it

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am5-pc/PS3dnc6tdU/
I don't know why they don't allow that cooler, as I've got the iCUE Link H150i (with the LCD screen added later) in the same case, with the same motherboard and RGB RAM, and there is PLENTY of space.

As for the GPU, only you can say whether 1-2% more FPS is worth the extra £150.

Hey Tony,

Ahh awesome that looks great! Yeah I am unsure I have emailed the Support Team with the updated spec build to see what they think.

I do have a soft spot for the Phanteks NV5! But as Scott mentioned and with your build, I'd rather go for the correct case especially as the GPU and CPU are powerful.

I also noticed you have 7 extra fans? Would you recommend that?

Thank you:)

Only if you like all that 'unicorn vomit'...they're not needed to cool the system, but I've got them all set at very low speeds to keep the airflow up but remain almost silent.

However PCS only offer the 120mm fans, and I wanted 3x140mm ones on the bottom (all iCUE Link), so had to get the 140mm ones elsewhere (but very easy to fit into the iCUE Link platform).

Hey Tony!

Ahh right I see okay awesome, thank you so much guys super helpful!!

I will just wait to see what the support team say about the cooling and motherboard compatibility, hopefully its just a bug one the configuration! :)

So the support team at PC Specialist said I can't use the H150i LCD with an ASUS X670 motherboard, I either have to go for the H115i elite Capellix xt or a gigabyte motherboard.

Did they say why, as it's got me worried about my H150i AIO and Strix X670 motherboard.

Nothing wrong with the Gigabyte X670 motherboard though!

I don’t buy that, have to say, they need to explain what the limitation is.

I think it’s probably someone being lazy and not trying to identify where the bug is

Hey Spyder and Tony,

Yeah I didn't get an explanation why, but I may call them tomorrow to ask about it i think easier over the phone!

I am sure I have seen other sources use both the motherboard and cooler.

Otherwise I think I will go for the Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite or the Gigabyte B650 A Elite

Just had a play in the configurator, and it doesn't allow ANY LCD version, nor any 360mm version with the Asus X670E motherboards...but is allowed on Asus X670P and B650 motherboards!!!

The X670 (non-Extreme) Gigabyte board will do fine - but it is a slight downgrade on the Strix X670E(xtreme) as it has no PCIe 5 GPU slot, and less PCIe 5 m.2 slots.

Wonder if it's an X670E issue only? Do they have different standoffs or CPU backplates that don't allow specific coolers to align properly?

Yeah I think its a bug or something! I also added the Asus X670E and the H150i on other PC build sites (Cyberpower system and Chill Blast) just to see and they don't show an error.

I'll give them a call tomorrow to check in, and I can message back tomorrow to let you know :)

My board is an X670E with the Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE LCD XT and fits perfectly fine.

I genuinely can't see where a compatibility issue would be, unless it's a super close VRM heat shield to the left of the pump header enfringing on space?

I had zero issues mounting mine, mine isn't some ultra special board either, I'm sure I'm missing something.
