Bioshock Infinite

I know that Infinite premiere is in March. It looks great. But I've never played any Bioshock before. Can I start with Infinite, or should I buy some previous?

Yeah. You can get Infinite without needing any real knowledge of 1 and 2. The others were both set in Rapture and based around the whole ADAM, EVE, ADAM slugs and Plasmids thing (there's a lot more behind it, but you'd probably enjoy it more finding out while playing the game than me just telling you, if you're planning to buy them at any point), but Infinite is set quite some time before any of the events to do with Rapture and is completely unrelated in the story to the original and sequel - Considering the fact Columbia in Infinite is a location suspended in the air by balloons and such and Plasmids were never yet heard of, nor the whole genetic re-coding song and dance (But the character you play and Elizabeth do have and find powers similar to the Plasmids and were probably based off of the Plasmids in the previous two)

And Rapture was quite the opposite, an underwater city hidden from most the rest of the world and if I recall is set about 40ish years after the Infinite setting, but Raptures creation was about 30 years after that setting, I think. It's been quite a while since I last refreshed my knowledge of the Bioshcok games stories, so some of what I said may be a little inaccurate.

Incase anyone like myself hates having to wait for the hardest difficulty

By default, Infinite only has three available difficulty settings: Easy, medium and hard, with the 1999 Mode - which tunes Irrational's latest game to a difficulty best suited for those looking for a classic shooter experience akin to System Shock 2's campaign - hidden away until the game is complete. If players decide they want an immediate challenge, using the Konami code will allow them to unlock it at any point.
On PC (with keyboardmouse): Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, (Cancel key), (Confirm key)
On Xbox: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A
On PS3: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, O, X

I'm not sure I'm sold on Infinite at all... I'm not a amssive fan of first person shooters though, so that might be why. It also looks just a little too much... like a cartoon? I don't think I like that!

I was a big fan of both the Bio Shock games however this one doesnt attract me as much, i think it is because Bioshock had a survival horror feal to it and i love horror games, this game seems quite bright and cheery.

The one thing that does make me curious is Elizabeth, ive watched a few vidocs on the character and the AI of her seems amazing.

Trust me.. this game isn't bright and cheery at all... haha it's brutal!

Has it still got a horror feel to it?

Hmmm... Hmmm... I was going to save my pennys for Gears but i my friend told me its a shadow of its former self.

Am i right in saying there is no link between the two series.

I really do want to play the hardcore mode too.

Hmm too be fair I was never scared with bioshock in the first place, I'm not too far yet but I do know that this game is beautiful and the gun play is a lot better than the previous games, the handyman really freaks me out though, I will keep you posted and let you know more.

An hour in and really digging this. Stuff got weird FAST. Currently having fun setting ablaze floating sky racists and murdering their friends with crows. Beautiful looking game. Had to tone settings off of maxed a little bit as i found when entering a new area my framerate halved, but i guess i can do without ultra detailed shadows anyway.

I noticed that too! when it loads a new area your computer just seems to take a little knock... and check out my screens on the screenshot thread ;P

What GPU's are you both using where it's causing the drop? I've ordered a 670, so I suspect I may not have that trouble and I'd like to play it at highest without much problem, but if it happens with that I can settle for a lowered setting!

shouldd be fine with a 670, I could run full graphics on my 560ti but it would drop more in bigger environments so I dropped it down :)

Good, good. It's about time I can play modern games on higher settings than low/Medium, I do love good graphics. :D

i5 & a 670. Game sits at 60 fps no probs, even in combat & when flying on skyrails, but there is a perceptible stutter if i discover a new area( maybe every five minutes of gameplay give or take). They released a driver on Monday, but hopefully a future update will resolve this issue a bit.

+1 680m here and it locks at 60 but sometimes there is minor jittering. Very hight settings.

Thanks! I'd imagine the new area thing is because it wasn't previously accessed, usually (I think) if you've been to an area already, in some games it saves certain instances for quicker loading and such, etc. And Blackdog, I find your chosen Avatar to be quite fitting for a Bioshock thread :p reminds me of Sander Cohen.

Thanks man - thats Salvador Dali who is definitely worth a google if you haven't come across already: he's a 20s Surrealist icon so perhaps could be snooping around Columbia.

Here's some of his stuff
