Haha I might get it in an hour or so but I won't be able to do much with it until I get home from work this evening, as it's got no OS :)

You still have a trial version OS installed to begin with. You can test the laptop out on that as it will have all the drivers pre-installed. After you can wipe it and install your own OS :)

Ah I see, I thought it would just be an empty HDD... well I'll see what I can do while still in the office.

Why would you even want the 180W? The P650SG would hit over 175W under max load, without any overclock. At least we got more headroom now. And I don't think the size is any different to the 180.

How big are the boxes these things come in?
I'm considering getting it delivered to work as can't guarantee I'll be home when it is due to deliver.
If it's huge though, lugging it on the train might be a bit of a mission...

It comes in a massive box, like a good 3 x 2 x 1 foot at least. However that is just for protection, as there is a nice regular sized laptop box suspended inside it (with a carry handle). As long as you can open and discard the exterior box, you should be fine to carry the laptop box back on the train.

Thats the point i didn't. I wanted the 200 watt but they said it will ship with 180 as mentioned in the order i placed. The configurator only has the option for the 180 watts. So pleasantly surprised getting the 200 watt that i wanted :D

Shouldn't discard the boxes i believe. I think if you ever send the laptop back for any reason you need those boxes to place it back into for protection or else you are charged some amount for new boxes.

But which GPU did you choose? The model with the 970M comes with 180W and the one with the 980M comes with 200W. The configurator is just not accurate.

i had the 980m version. Which is why i asked if i would be getting a 200 watt PSU and they said no i would be getting a 180 watt one as was in the order. Now seeing as DJ got a 200 watt one i can assume so will i and i am even more excited now :D

Yeah most likely the guy you talked to simply looked on your order sheet, and because they have not actually added the 200W option to the configurator it simply puts the 180W option in. But the chassis that you're getting comes with a 200W as stated on Clevo's product page so don't worry.

Okay, so.

My plan was to use my existing laptop's hard drive in the Defiance, so I uninstalled all drivers/Vaio related software (after creating a system restore point, in case something went wrong), and whipped the hard drive out of my old laptop. Opening the Defiance was not as complicated as some people made it out to be. Yes there's about 14 screws, but once you undo them, the back pretty much pops off. I took the hard drive mount out, and had to move the existing drive to the other slot - note it's a 7mm drive that came with a plastic attachment that made it 9mm. So if you plan to install your own 9mm drive and use the provided one as a secondary, you need to take the existing one out, strip the plastic buffer off, and switch it to the lower position, then put your desired drive in the top slot.

As a credit to Windows, the laptop booted up with my existing Windows install and I got a message saying "setting up your devices", that took all of 45 seconds, and there I was, back on my old desktop.

After getting the drivers and utilities installed, everything is working like a charm, and I didn't have to go through setting up my programs and settings all over again.

Initial impressions: the screen is beautiful, although there's a little light bleed which in most cases goes away if some pressure is applied behind the display around the area of the bleed. The speakers are great, I am still getting used to the keyboard (not saying it's bad, it's actually quite great, but just a different from my old laptop -- I'm typing this on the Defiance as we speak).

One quirk though, I couldn't get the SD card reader to work. In fact I literally had to force the SD card into the slot, it didn't feel right. As a result, I cannot post the pictures I took. If anyone has any insight as to why that might not be working, please let me know.

Other than that, I am super impressed so far. It's snappy as hell even with this filthy old Windows installation that I ported over. If anyone has specific questions, feel free to post, and I'll do my best to answer.
