Iconico RTX 3070 Awful Performance

So I ran the performance monitor like you said and it's telling me the CPU rating for the system is very poor.
leaving just my opinion here...

I see from this screenshot that your system is heavily bogged by a background process named "taskhostw.exe" which is using ALL your resources...
we are talking 98+% resources

I think you may have a severe SOFTWARE problem rather than hardware, maybe a wrong driver or even a virus?
sorry for the question but.... is your windows genuine?

I entirely agree with this.

Something being installed is causing issues.

Yes my windows is genuine. On my 3rd install I downloaded windows 10 from the link provided by @SpyderTracks

I think it’s maybe a faulty motherboard? Like as in my CPU is barely working and as a result what it is doing it is struggling to do? I’m not sure what the hell this taskhost.exe is though. But it’s def concerning

You didn't say that at the time, you said you were already installing the latest image.

I'm still not convinced your windows is configured. Something isn't adding up. The fact it didn't auto switch to the dGPU and high CPU usage suggests it's a software issue, not hardware. If it was a hardware issue, then when it switch to dGPU it would have crashed.

Unfortunately you're not covered for software support as you didn't order windows.

The whole point is that the CPU is working overtime, there's something making it run flat out 24/7. Mobo doesn't do that, that's a windows task that does that.

I don’t really understand what more you want me to? I installed windows from the link you provided for my 3rd install.
Honestly I don’t really find your comments very helpful, all you are telling me over and over is windows isn’t configured. I suppose we’ll see what PCS say when they inspect my machine.

I’m incredibly controlling and I’ve found there’s only one real way to install and configure windows on custom machines.

I would like to take you through it step by step but each time I try I get sidetracked by work or something.

But that’s what I’d like to do.

Well let’s go for it then mate. My machine is being picked up Monday, so I have all weekend.

Apologies, I've only just come back to this thread. @angelo994, that's the initial high level Performance Monitor report, you can get a lot more detailed information than that but as I said the learning curve is very steep.

Very well spotted @uaibuloo, taskhostw.exe is indeed chewing up almost all the CPU. (y)

The taskhostw.exe process is a hosting process (as the name implies) used to host Windows functions that only exist as dll files (you can't start a process with a dll, only with an exe file). It's similar to the svchost.exe process, excepot that this is used to host functions that are started as services, whereas taskhostw.exe is used to host a variety of dll functions.

You can find out what dlls are being hosted by the taskhostw.exe process by starting an elevated command prompt or PowerShell session and entering the following command...

tasklist /fi "imagename eq taskhostw.exe" /m

The output will list all dlls currently being hosted by taskhost.exe. Post a screenshot of that and we'll see whether we can point to whichever one is likely to be a problem. That might be a big ask though. ;)

The output of that Performance Monitor overview does clearly show a CPU hog is using almost all of your CPU cycles and that will slow things down massively. This is almost certainly a software issue.

If you’ve got time now, I’ve got nothing on all night, I’d love to give it a try, I’m feeling fairly optimistic.

And apologies, I know how I can come across, I tend to be very limited wordwise and to the point.

Let’s give it a go if you’re up for it?

Let @ubuysa do his investigation firstly, then if it requires a reinstall we’ll go through it.

I ran a command prompt like you said and this was the result.

That's okay man. I'm also naturally annoyed by this whole ordeal. But I do greatly appreciate your time and help.

I'm busy tonight sorry, but like I said. Free all weekend if you want to have go at this.

There is nothing in there that is unusual and the Task Manager output doesn't show anything usual either. It's getting late here (Crete) so if you want to follow @SpyderTracks instructions for reinstalling do that. I will put together some instructions for you tomorrow to run a Performance Monitor data collection session that should give us some data we can work on - assuming you're still having problems... :)

Wow you guys are amazing!
I hope I dont have any issues but if I did I would feel so much more relaxed knowing the help and advice you offer!
I know this is a forum but sounds like you may be giving up an evening to help a stranger (sorry Angelo, but you know what I mean).

Edit: and I definitely forgive @SpyderTracks for deleting my posts for going off topic a few days ago!
