This looks a much better bet than the others. Good all round CPU.
Yeah from what I've seen the 79xx processors seem like better value for big money. With how much everything else costs in this gen if you're wanting to spend the extra money on the other bits you really need the big processors to justify it. This is just a guess as well but I'd imagine the double-part design for the 79xx processors would help a bit with thermals for any given core count as well as it spreads the heat, so I'm guessing 12 cores on 2 parts would be notable compared to 8 cores on 1 part?

Idk how much there is between the 7900 and the 7950, I guess it's just 12 or 16 cores lol. Superpowered or overkill, decisions decisions... 😂

With Zen 3 (Ryzen 6000) the 79X0 chips were better silicon all round, so could run cooler/at a lower power draw for a given frequency. It'll be interesting to know how true that is for Zen 4 as well.

Apologies if this isnt the right place for the question.

But with the release of the Zen 4 chips with the Zen 3’s become cheaper? Or has this already happened?

Is it worth waiting for the B650 motherboards to match with the 7700X? Rather than going for some top end Zen 3 like a 5900X or 5950X?

Thanks!

So a quick config of a 7600x system vs a 5800X3D, with same case, GPU, PSU etc between them gives a price of €3,012 vs €2,777. So €300 cheaper for build that gives you the best gaming FPS.... mmmm.

Didn't AMD announce that 6000 mhz DDR 5 is the sweet spot for these new processors?
I might be missing something, but the highest I can see in the configurator is 5600?

Yep, I guess PCS decided not to stock that or indeed found it difficult to source right now. Pretty much all the benchmarks released yesterday were based on 6000Mhz RAM, supplied by AMD to reviewers. So be interesting to see what performance you leave on the table if you max out at 5600Mhz with a PCS build

From the benchmarks I saw on hardware unboxed, 5600 did lose some meaningful performance. What we've done in the past is configure the lowest spec of RAM possible (on DDR 4 this was 4gb 2666mhz or something) so you lose out on a little cash, then source your own dimms from elsewhere. I haven't had a chance to look at the configurator to see what the lowest RAM spec available is?

From what I've seen 6000MHz is best value, 6400mhz for best performance (minor improvement over 6000)

32Gb (2x16Gb) of 4800MHz (40-40-40-77) Corsair Vengeance seems to be the lowest spec / cheapest you can configure!!!

32Gb (2x16Gb) of 5600MHz Corsair Vengeance is only £40 more.

I'm really glad I'm not on the bleeding edge of this cycle

Damn, that's what I was afraid of, that's that out the window then.

Not even worth buying the cheap stuff just to swap & sell, as no-one will want it!
Aye, may as well get the faster ram, for the sake of £40, and then update it next year, or some time later.
I was hoping for 6000MHz, as it seems to have the best speed/price bang for buck, for what I want.
6400 better performance, but not hugely better.

It's also dependent on timings...same as the offerings for DDR4 from PCS where the 3200MHz vs 3600MHz performance was negligible (I only bought the 3600MHz as it was £2 cheaper at the time)

And to throw some more salt in AMD's wound, can now pre-order the Intel 13th gen!!!!

Scroll down the CPU dropdown
Available 20/10/22

12600K > 13600K: £59
12700K > 13700K: £27
12900K > 13900K: £32

That i5 increase is rather painful 🙃 Although having DDR4 and B660 should help ;)
