Unreal Engine's supervisor has disclosed that it has faced a 50% failure rate with Intel's Core i9-14900K & Core i9-13900K CPUs.

From early reports 15th gen are about 4% improvement over 14th gen, and rather than tackle thermals they’ve raised the TJMax to 105c. It’s screaming to be a similar issue.

And this is happening after they’ve announced the microcode update.

It would seem the bigwigs who code on these platforms ain’t buying that microcode update is gonna do any good.

And factor in also that Unreal has always been an Intel favoured load, just isn’t the case anymore.

What happens when adobe announces the same, I can actually think of very few loads that are intel centric anymore but what about them?

This could be absolutely catastrophic for intel. These are partners that have been exclusively intel for over a decade, and your talking orders amounting to millions on rolling upgrades perhaps bi-annually.

It's nothing short of a disaster, and that's putting it mildly.

For me the fact that a company representative would openly put themselves out there with public negative statements against a company like Intel just shows how clear cut it is. There is no way anyone with any clout would put themselves in harms way against a giant if their claims weren't absolutely air tight.

It's normally a very dangerous game with the litigation potential. There doesn't seem to be any fear at all now. Behind closed doors I guess Intel aren't doing anywhere near enough to satisfy the high rollers.

I notice there have been an influx of "my PC is dying" threads in the last week and you already know they've got an Intel chip before you even read all the opening post.

You just have to feel for people. It's a really bad situation for all involved. It must be completely demoralising for people to be so buzzed about their PC only for it to be this bad a situation. These things aren't cheap.

The majority of them are invariably the 900k or 900ks sku's as well, and they are damn pricey, substantially more than a 7950X3D.

This means it includes the i5 ranges, the 14400 up to 14600 and Ks and all variants of them!

They've also confirmed that the issue does appear to be present on laptop CPU's.

Cancel it and come back and get some advice, Intel are totally broken, pointless processors.

You can't amend an order from Intel to AMD, you have to cancel it and start over.

Yeah I'd have to redo it all. Doesn't help as I ordered through work and I'll have to sort all that again.

Why would you, it's an old generation now, performance would be dreadful and it would be outdated far quicker. It's almost 3 generations old, and wasn't great when it was released anyway.

So if we bought an intel-based PC within the last 6 months (in the UK), the Consumer Rights Act specifies that items sold must be "fit for purpose" and these clearly aren't, so we'd be entitled to a full replacement system based on AMD? Is that how we should read it?
