Laptop keeps turning off when under intensive loads

I have an Optimus X laptop that I purchased January of this year, I haven't had any issues with it, up until now. The Thermals have seemed to become much worse and I didn't mind that as it never interrupted my gaming. Until recently, it keeps turning off when playing intensive games such as Horizon 4.

I read the forums and saw that re-application of Thermal Paste was a common occurrence and was allowed.

Re-applying the thermal paste, went fluidly, I appreciate the screws are marked with numbers. Un-screwed backwards from 11-1 and then screw with 1-11 after wiping and re-applying the paste. Doing this did help my thermals quite a bit but as soon as I played five minutes of Horizon 4, it turned off again.

I used Artix MX-4

Any tips with how I proceed? I know high thermals are normal.

If you use HWMonitor, post your temps for both CPU and GPU when idle and under load:

The first is Idle and the second is Under Load (Five minutes of Horizon 4 and Spotify)

Also note, I used to be able to run the Intel XTU Benchmark without crashing but every time I try to do so now it shuts off. After I applied the thermal paste, it managed to nearly complete but within the last percentage of the bar, it still shut. So the thermal paste did help but I am still running into crashes when playing intensive games for longer than five minutes.

Have you cleaned the dust out recently? The finned heat exchanger next to the fan(s) blocks up very easily and you need a good airflow through there.

No idea if it'll be the same for you, but I had an issue with temps when I first got my Octane IV, I ended up undervolting by -104mV and I gained an 11 degree Celsius dip in my temps under load, also made the whole thing more stable: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/octane-iv-cpu-temp-67c-with-10-load.58910/

As mentioned in that thread, there are others that undervolted by -150mV, but when I did that it caused the laptop to just freeze and crash. Fortunately it just restarts back to default settings if that happens. But I always keep it at -104mV now, it's very stable, no impact on performance & is cooler in general.

Not sure if that will help with your issue, it just reminded me of mine back when I got my laptop, so might do the trick.
