Hey OLD_TIMER,

I am sorry to hear about this, could you PM me your order number so I can look into this please?

I stated a "conversation" with you with the details that you required.

That's awful!

Awful anyway, but especially on top of the problems you've already had.

I appreciate your comments here @Oussebon . I have 2 of my own, existing hard drives, in that case. I don't think this impact has done them any good whatsoever.

I wasn't going to do this tonight, but I had to.

I've opened up the case to inspect the damage. There is an impact to the rear left hand side of the PC Approx half way up. The image below shows said impact. This impact has deformed the metalwork below the motherboard. This deformation has closed the clearance of the 2 extra 2.5 SSD mounting trays to the case chassis

I'm quite disturbed that there are NO DENTS to the side panels directly adjacent to the rear impact. Both panels are fine, unmarked. This PC looks like it was dropped while its side panel wasn't fitted. This PC needs to be carefully inspected when it's returned.

Looking at the damage, I can only come to the conclusion that this PC was inpacted on the rear and the force rippled through the entire case. This is why there is the damage to the front corner, which is pushed outwards. If it had been dropped on the front corner, the damage would be far more extensive to that specific area

It's hard to photograph but I think you can see the impact damage below. :-

Buckled/bowed rear case member.

Bent member of case chassis, with SSD trays impacted. EDIT. I made a mistake in claiming that a screw was missing from the right hand SSD tray. There is infact only 1 screw per tray for fitment. Apologies.

It was almost IMPOSSIBLE to remove my 2 existing hard drives [Samsung EVO 850 & Seagate Barracuda 3TB] The 2 drive trays were crushed into place and I couldn't remove them. Luckily I left a gap between them so I could wedge in a screwdriver.

On a positive note, the CPU/Fan & Graphics card were still connected.

It's hard to see how that could have happened while it was inside the packaging, without the packaging being smashed to bits.

You said earlier that the PC box was half opened... I'm almost wondering whether it fell out in transit and someone tried to reseal it...

I'm not looking for excuses to let PCS off the hook btw, I've always found DPD (if that's still their courier?) to be perfectly fine so I don't have any personal reason to point the finger. It's just hard to imagine how PCS could have let it out of their warehouse like this. When it's a fresh build, there are checking processes / QC. I assume it's the same with RMA. And since all these people are logged it wouldn't take PCS long to establish whodunnit, as it were.

I suppose it's all speculation at this point, I hope PCS investigate thoroughly.

I hope your drives are alright too, have you been able to test them with another system yet? Maybe in an external enclosure?

I don't think that's a possibility. The side panel would be the first point of contact of a drop impact, in that specific area, yet it is completely untouched. These side panels are thin gauge, probably 18swg [1.2mm]. The plastic retaining pegs of the side panel are still intact...

Not yet. I will throw them into an external case tomorrow and check for life.

Here's a picture of the packaging box :-

I really feel for you, I can't imagine how awful that must be. That said I simply can't believe it left PCS in that state, there is no way it would go unnoticed for one thing, it's not like they made a small scratch and tried to hide it. That thing is busted.

I realise it's going to be hard to trust PCS right at the moment but I see you're already in contact with them (via MoosEh). I'd hope that you can trust them enough to get to the bottom of what's happened here.

I'm pretty sure PCS want to find out what's happened too, they sure won't want this happening to anyone else.

Very best wishes, I think you've been amazingly restrained and objective all considered. I'm sure it will get sorted.

@ubuysa

Cheers. I've calmed down a bit since discovering the mess. Alas when I phoned up PCS this afternoon to report the incident I did vent a little.
This PC, when it's working right will see me through a good few years hopefully.

I think I know what happened here, but I can't say it on this thread. I also get the feeling that some *others* out there *may* place the blame for this damage eleswehere..

Hope the new PC helps put the experience to rest and lets you get on with enjoying the tech :)

What was the resolution in the end if you don't mind my asking? PCS cross-shipping a whole new PC?

@Oussebon . PCS decided to advance build an entire new PC while the old one was being sent back. I've been updated on that build over the last few days. Customer service has been outstanding to be perfectly honest.

I’m really pleased PCS have responded this way, and I sincerely hope this one is delivered in excellent health! I have to say, given the circumstances I think you’ve dealt with it exceptionally well, from your account of the issue to the in depth photos and repackaging as well of course to bringing out the peach custard!

Bravo!

I really hope this turns out a positive experience on the whole for you.

@SpyderTracks Many thanks for that message. I'm sure it will turn out ok. I will be in the back of the DPD van as it arrives, just to look over the obvious etc.

One thing for sure though. IF I had bought this PC from anywhere else,I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have got this level of support.
