PC Freezing

Hello All,

I purchased the below build from here just over a year ago and I've had a strange issue where my computer freezes when I play video - this can be Youtube, Twitch, Netflix etc and can be either on the internet or straight from the apps. I never have freezing issues running heavy games i.e. Warzone, Witcher 3. I have also had this once where the computer was locked (on the lock screen) so it may not even be to do with video, that's just the common theme I've had when its frozen in approx the 20 times it has frozen this month. When it freezes I have to just press the power off on the PC to reboot which I imagine will damage the PC in the long run.

When I say freezing, the RGB stops entirely, but my cursor still moves. I cannot interact with the app/webpage I'm currently on but I can minimise it/close it. I cannot bring my windows bar up from the bottom of the screen to relaunch any apps (or to shut down the PC).

I genuinely have no idea where to start on troubleshooting this. My temps never seem to spike, although I do currently have a bubble trapped in my AIO (seperate issue which I will resolve soon with new AIO), however this has only ever made noise but not affected temps so I doubt this is it.

If anyone has any idea where I can start to look to sort this I'd really appreciate any pointers! Really cringe whenever I have to power off manually and it's frustrating when I have youtube on one monitor and studying on the other and my computer freezes in the middle of something important.

My two monitors are an ASUSVG259 1080 144fps and some old LG TV 1080p 60fps

Thank you

When trying youtube/etc. what internet browser are you using? Could you try a different one to see if the issue persists?

Have you installed all the latest windows updates/etc?

I use Edge but has happened on Chrome too. It says I've got all Windows updates apart from one optional one that came out in April

Does anyone have an idea which part I should look at troubleshooting? Not sure if it's GPU or CPU error

That is some weird behaviour your system is displaying!

First thing to do is go to Event Viewer (just click the WIndows icon bottom left of screen and start typing it)....under WIndows logs, check "System" and "Application"...see if anything directly precedes when the freezes happened, especially anything with a red marker next to it.

If Event Viewer is less than useful, given that is is kind of freezing but still allowing cursor movement and allowing minimising/closing sounds, to me (I am far from an expert), more like a Windows issue than a hardware issue. In your shoes, I'd try reinstalling Windows (make sure to backup important files):

It will need a 16GB USB drive. Install Windows from the USB. Once installed, go to Windows Update, click "check for updates" and install any listed...restart the system as required, then go back to Update and check again for any more that may appear. Once no more updates appear, download your Graphics driver from here:

Restart your system. Do not install anything else. Now try and replicate your freezing issue...if it no longer does it, then the issue was corrupted/broken system files; if it still does it, then it points to hardware as a likely cause. If that's the case, first thing I'd check is the RAM:

Needs the tool installed to a USB drive and then run overnight to ensure it completes it's entire run.

Try the above things and post back
Thank you for your comment - I have checked the event viewer following a crash and there are a few red markers (first two pics) and a few yellow markers in system, then a red marker in Application (final pic)

Do these help decipher what the issue could be at all?

Im a mere novice at this kind of stuff, but DistributedCOM errors are something lots of people seem to have had issues with on Win10, if you google it theres quite a lot of sites talking about it, they might have helpful info.

This was a good thread from microsoft itself that covers a lot of bases
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...m-errors/12ac1e20-fb62-4c06-9a83-49a88b55da4f

It maybe that the only way forward is to revert to a previous restore point before the errors started (itts very possible its been caused by software or an update thats been put on) or a fresh install.

Is @ubuysa still active on the forum? He tended to be the goto guy for this kinda thing, could pick apart logs and fix software issues like no ones business

Little note, updating BIOS (which it mentions in the microsoft forums thread) isnt something to do without knowing its 100% needed, and if you are still within warranty, you need to speak to PCS first and get it all through them or it invalidates it.

DistributedCOM can cause freezes, it all depends what its trying to actually do...
From what I understand, its basically commands coming from outside your PC, so its requesting commands from a server or something like that.

Its not something I have any real knowledge of, just a basic rudimentary idea of it.
