Torn between 4k gaming options in horrible component market - opinions please?

It's annoying the FE card isn't available ... it's also frankly annoying the price we're still looking at in the UK for both cards. They should be £200-250 cheaper all things being equal on US prices. Do you think PCS will have a lower prices when they eventually get FW cards in compared to whatever "mystery" card they're providing now (FE should be £1-200 cheaper)?

Don't forget that US prices are ex-VAT (or sales tax)...so the actual price a US resident pays will increase by 0-15% depending on which state they're in (comprised of state and local sales taxes).

The FE isn't even available from the official reseller, so I can't even suggest buying your PC without a GPU and sourcing your own.

I would always choose a founders edition above other models anyway, they have the strongest cooling design out of all the cards IMHO, they also tend to use higher quality capacitors and components.

Yeah, that was my preference, but neither PCS nor Cyberpower have the FE. FWIW, from speaking with PCS staff, the 4080S they're currently stocking is a ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Trinity. Very small FF compared to others in the 4080 family .. seems to perform well, but looks like it could get hot if case conditions not ideal. They also said little likelihood of them getting the FE anytime soon (or at all!?).

So if I go the 4080S route, it's a ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Trinity with PCS and a "MSI GeForce RTX™ 4080 SUPER 16GB" (I'm guessing Ventus) if I go with Cyberpower.

Or a 7900XTX/ASUS TUF.

One more check .. cooling wise, this has 3 fan intake, 3 fan AIO out. I think that will look nice and balanced and, despite the glass front, seems like a fair bit of chill. The case is probably meant for using with side fans too, but in absense of that, is there a need for a rear exhaust fan? Not really up on all the positive/negative pressure stuff (more the turn it to 11 approach 🤣).

Boom .. ordered! Christ that took a lot of faffing about over the last couple of months. Thanks for all the help and advice over a very long thread.

In the end, despite £80ish saving for B650 version, I splurged on the TUF GAMING X670E (flimsily on better audio, better looks, better rear USB .. oh .. and all the better power stuff that will probably never matter!). Also went for 1TB and 2TB versions of the Solidigm P44 Pro for what it's worth. Near enough 990 Pro speeds and cheaper. I wanted 4TB but just too much money right now, so 2TB for games with the occosional messy overspill into the system drive if needed since I'll never have more than about 300GB on that most likely. Whatever.

I see PCS suggested a 650W PSU. Have gone with RMx 1000W as I just think future GPU upgrades could push it and better to have comfortable overpower.

Who knows if they'll give me a nice colourful rear exhaust fan?! Fingers crossed ;o)

All good choices. The PCS notification about the PSU is just accounting for the lowest you could go with the build as it is, but you’re planning for upgrades over a 10 year or so lifespan, so 1000w is a good shout.
