Weird internet issue, but only when running games

For some reason whenever i run a game, no matter what game or launcher, if it has any sort of online connection at all, my connection completely dies. I have good internet, usually around 500mbs down, but whenever i open a game its plummets down to 5 or so, and after just a few moments it completely dies. However my pc is saying it is still connected to the router, just not receiving internet. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling game services, manually starting WLAN and WWAN services, multiple router, pc and adapter restarts, even a full adapter reset and it has done nothing to fix this. I had a single day on Thursday where it was fine again randomly and since then its been like this.

Specs are as follows, taken straight from my PCS order.

First try powering your wireless router off and back on.

Next, see whether connecting to the router via a cable instead of WiFi is any better. Do this even if you have to temporarily move the PC.

Then let us know what happens.

I have already restarted my router multiple times

I just moved my pc down next to the router so i could use a cable, i don't have one long enough currently to reach its usual spot... while it was there i tested over wifi and over ethernet and with wifi i had the same problem, but ethernet was completely fine, sitting happily at 800 down with a game running. Second i swapped back to wifi i had nothing

That's very useful information because now we can be sure the problem is with your WiFi and not the network stack or Windows.

Let's do the obvious first: you have attached the antenna to the wireless card I assume? It will be in the welcome box if not.

Yes. I should say, this isnt a new pc, its about a year old and its only the last week or so ive had this issue. As ive said, my connection is rock solid, until the very second i launch a game, and then it dies.

Are you still running Norton? If you’ve uninstalled it did you use the official uninstalled tool?

I don't actually remember, but I'm pretty sure I just used the official tool, by the sound of that, that's wrong... but again, Norton had never affected my Internet at all, and I haven't had a problem with Internet until this last week, and my RMA, and that thread, was when I got rid of Norton.

The official tool is the only way to uninstall an anti virus, otherwise it's still actively working away if you try to remove it from the standard windows add remove programs.

The symptoms you're having are known behaviours for Norton firewall running awry, that's why I asked specifically.

Are you using any kind of VPN? Can you take a screenshot of your network adapters page?

Ah, apologies, I'd missed this is only happening on the wifi

Easy fix (hopefully) first connect to the LAN so you've got a connection without wifi, go into device manager, right click on the wifi adapter under Network adapters and select uninstall, then reboot and go to optional updates and make sure all those and windows updates are installed.

Then try reconnecting the wifi and retesting.

I will try that and come back to the thread, I've already moved my pc back away from the router.

I deleted and rebooted and downloaded all of the optional updates i have available to me and im still getting the same error.

It would be useful to have more data, so even though this isn't a BSOD could you please download and run the SysnativeBSODCollectionApp and upload the resultant zip file to a cloud service with a link to it here. Be sure to make it public (so we don't have to login to download the zip file).

The SysnativeBSODCollectionApp does not collect any personally identifying information, it's perfectly safe, and it#s used by several respected Windows help forums. You can look at the files in the zip file, mostly they are txt files, but please don't change or delete anything. If you want to know what data these files contain there are full details here.

If this were mine, I would download the WiFi driver from your PCS account, because that should be fully compatible with your build. Then open Device Manager, right-click on your AX200 adapter and select Uninstall. When you see the uninstall warning dialog box check (select) the 'Delete device driver software for this device' checkbox and click the Uninstall button. Then uninstall the Intel Pro/Set software via Programs & Features, if you have it. Then, reboot to ensure all wireless drivers are unloaded. Finally install the driver you downloaded from PCS but DO NOT install the Pro/Set software, just the driver.

See whether that helps.

Unless i am doing something wrong, there are no drivers for my order. I went to the downloads tab, it shows my order and i click on win11 and it loads an empty table. I've also already uninstalled my adapter as per another suggestion and reinstalled it and the driver over ethernet so i don't really understand why there are two there

edit, i just realized i didn't delete the driver when i did that reset, i didn't see the checkbox for it. i guess try that again but click the checkbox?

They don't list drivers for PC's only laptops, for PC's you always use windows update, and then use the manufacturer website drivers if Windows doesn't account for them.

Yes, you will have just overlayed the driver which won't correct anything. It needs to be fully deleted.

Can you also upload a screenshot of your optional updates page once you've rebooted?

You may want to delete that image as it has personal information on it

Just to check, did you search for updates before looking at optional updates?

Can you upload a screenshot of your device manager network section?
