Windows 11 CPU Not Supported

Hi,

I have an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six Core CPU (3.2ghx/19MB Cache/AM4) in a ASUS motherboard Prime A320M-K: Micro-ATX, AM4, USB 3.0, 6GB/s.
Microsoft is saying I can't upgrade to Windows 11 due to the CPU.

Can I upgrade the CPU on this system so that I can run Windows 11?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Is this a PCSpecialist machine? Could you post your full specs from the order page?

Is there a reason you need windows 11 now?

It would make more sense to wait until windows 10 is out of support in 2025, that way you'll get a far better processor which will increase the lifespan of the system.

That motherboard not really designed for even mid range chips, it's very budget level but could take up to a 5600x

Youd have to be on the latest BIOS to register the CPU and of course you'd have to have a suitable cooler

I'm not sure as some video games are not working and I believe it is due to no windows 11.
There are still many using Win10 (including myself), I would expect games to still run perfectly fine on Win10, it's likely something else causing your issues.
Maybe because your machine has quite old components and is struggling to run because of them, it could however be a number of different things

As Spyder said, what problems/errors are you getting

I am failing to run Call of Duty Modern Warfare Warzone 2.0.
Every time it asks me for an update and when I update it, it fails saying 'something broke'. I have no issue with storage and have a wired connection.

Have you used one of those driver update tools rather than either Geforce Experience/the NVidia site and Windows Update to update your drivers?

I'm asking this because someone on the discord channel has had a very similar issue and was using one of the driver update tools - which are a very very very bad idea and can cause all kinds of problems

It is saying I am on windows 8 every time I try to load up Warzone even though my settings say I am fully updated on which I assume I am on Windows 10.

Check you're not running COD in compatabilty mode:
  1. Right-click on the game in the Steam Library and go to Properties
  2. Select the Local Files tab and click on Browse
  3. Locate the game’s executable and right-click > choose Properties
  4. Go to the Compatibility tab
  5. Ensure that you are not running the program in compatibility mode.

Edit: You may also need to check Steam is not also running in compatabilty mode. Exit Steam then type "Steam" in the search bar. Right click on the Steam icon, and choose Open File Location. Right click on the Steam shortcut in this folder, choose properties and then compatabilty. Make sure it's not set to run as Windows 8.
