Windows 11

I have just found out that my computer won't support Windows 11. The processor isn't compatible. My question is can the processor be updated to one that is compatible. My Motherboard spec is H-110-R (LGA1151) Version Rev X.0x My PC is a PC Specialist Vortex Fusion 5 Gaming PC. Its

No, there is no CPU for that generation of motherboards that is supported by Windows 11. An eighth-gen CPU is required and that motherboard supports nothing later than sixth-gen.

I don't think there's a straight forward upgrade option to be honest. You need to have at least an 8th generation CPU to pair with the TPM2.0.

I don't think there's a straight drop in chip option. I've read about custom bios and the likes.

Here is a link to something I found:

You can see here that 8th Gen isn't officially supported:

I wouldn't worry too much d00d.

Windows 11 is just a sugar-coated Windows 10. It is effectively the same operating system but arguably worse. I know you probably want the latest and greatest version but it isn't worth upgrading your PC over it. I kept my previous laptop running 10 years because I didn't want to give up Windows 7...

If you need Windows 11, you'll need a new CPU and motherboard at a minimum. Without knowing the rest of your system it's hard to say if it's worth it.

But you don't need Windows 11 anyway. You have another two and a half years of support on Windows 10 and there aren't that many compelling reasons to upgrade.

Ok thanks for the info.

Yeah that was the worry really that Windows 10 won't be supported after the Autumn of 2025. Its a pain why they have to bring another version of windows out. I suppose for now soldier on with win 10 and worry about win 11 when that date arrives. Thanks for your help.

No worries.

It's basically because of people like you! Microsoft doesn't want to keep on supporting old, less secure hardware. It's easier to communicate this with a new version like "Windows 11" than things like "versions of Windows 10 released after September 2025". It's clearer for everyone. I think there's a lot of sense to it, myself.

I suspect by the time Windows 10 support is due to stop Microsoft will relax the hardware requirements for Windows 11.

There are ways to install it on older systems but not really recommended for a main home computer, and as others have said, not much point. My experience with Windows 11 so far has been to try and make it work like Windows 10 did. Some aspects of it are infuriating, not being able to uncombine the task bar being the worst level of stupidity I've encountered, makes using Windows so unproductive.

So what's an 8th Generation CPU?
Additionally, supported Win11 chips:

I'm trying to find out if my motherboard will support any of these. Not sure how to find that info out. Have read the handbook that came with the computer but its all jargon I can't make head nor tail of. It maybe that I need another Motherboard fitting.

Yeah but Windows 10 won't be supported after the Autumn of 2025 and therefore a security risk. That's what scares me the most. I don't want my bank details etc wide open like they would be without security.
