Battlefield 4.... Is it worth it?

Can you right click on the game in Origin and repair the install?

Yes, I tried that just now Boozad and it didn't work.....I have been getting this error in red at the bottom of the BF screen:

"Error Could not communicate with BF4. Please use the Task Manager to close it down."

I googled this error and also the 'internal DirectX' error and there are absolutely loads of users who have experienced this.

I am going to re-install the game and origin I think....???

Might be the best bet. Not sure whether it may be something to do with PunkBuster, I'm not at my PC at the moment so my Google-Fu is limited.

I re-installed the game (takes absolutely ages), but I cannot play the game at all, multiplayer or single player.

The game initializes and just hangs there:

Then, I keep getting....."Error Could not communicate with BF4. Please use the Task Manager to close it down".

I just don't know what to do, I'm coming to the end of my tether, its so depressing.

I'm shocked that I cannot play this game.

Anyone here have this problem can assist?

Maybe there is something in this link Tobias?

Edit:I wonder if you delete DirectX and reinstall it would work?

Hi Fishy, yes, I am reading through this forum also.....I should have the latest version of DirectX that came with my new PC for Win8.

Please tell me how I delete DirectX and ensure I have the latest version. Would it be DirectX found under 'Origin' folder OR where it is on my PC (where - apps?) ???

I'm sorry I do not know. I'm only a beginner at gaming (on the pc) and I only got my first pc in November.

Type dxdiag in the search box, this will show the version of DirectX you have installed.
DirectX 11.2 is included in Windows 8.1 but "Currently, DirectX Diagnostic Tool may show DirectX 11 as the DirectX version number for DirectX 11.2 and DirectX 11.1.

I'm still a bit puzzled as to why. Do you have a monthly download data limit that your parents are worried about exceeding?
Probably a very similar reason as to why my dad turns off the router and the youview box every night despite the fact that said router and youview box would probably be happier being left on (I have lived away from them for many years now so it doesn't affect me)
My mum understands this but my dad still insists on turning them off, mainly cos over many many many years he has always turned everything off at night - it may have been to save on electricity usage at some point, but now it's a learnt behaviour which isn't changing anytime soon no matter what logic is given as to why he shouldn't :)

Drives me mental that my dad turns off his TV at the mains every night so every morning he has to wait 5 minutes for the EPG to find the programmes. Complete donut.

I'll have a look into this when I've started to recover from my screaming hangover. It may be worth running a search on the BF4 forums, it will definitely have been covered there.

I just came across this, looks like delving deeper into Task Manager may help. Worth a shot anyway.

The solution to this is simple. When you launch the task manager, double-click anywhere right on the inside of the task manager window in the white space. (Preferably right above the bottom-left of the window works best and avoids misclicks). This will then allow the user to view the tabs located on the top of the window. The next step is to click the "Processes" tab. This will show a list of all running processes on your computer currently. Among them will be BF4.exe. (There may be slight variation with your system - for example it may say BF4_64.exe) This is not concerning, it only relates to the version of the game you a running according to your operating system. End that process by clicking "End Process" on the bottom right. BF4.exe can be found easily by filtering all running processes by name, and scrolling down to the letter "B".

Upon ending that process, I was then able to launch the game again without issue. I do not know if this issue will persist, but at the very least, Tech Support said they would be looking into the issue further to see what can be found, and I will do my best to keep the community up to speed with troubleshooting problems like this, as well as any progress I make as to why this issue is occurring in the first place.

Boozad, to cut a very very long stories short, I have now managed after 2/3 days to get it working. There was this nice guy on the EA forums who helped me and together we solved it. All it was (for me anyhow as others are experiencing major problems) was that I had both Windows and Bullguard Firewall on together. Newbie error on my part (on the older PCs it actually informed you). Anyhow, I turned off Bullguard and it works. Obvious compatibility issues having two firewalls on.

Many thanks Boozad for taking the time to look at it though.

Hope your hangover is cured, mine is now - orange juice and bacon sannie with brown sauce. :)
