I've always been an advocate of the Logan's Run style retirement scheme...although maybe not at such a young age.
  • 15-20 years of education
  • 40-50 years of work
  • 10-30 years of retirement
  • > off to Carrousel
My suggestion for that retirement phase is for the government to give you a total pension fund that you can spend as you wish...but once that fund is gone you move onto the next & final stage.

In my case is would be 10 years of fun/travel/etc. and then off to Carrousel. For others it would be a meagre 30 years spent at home or on coach holidays to Bournemouth.

Well I've had 4.5 years so far with a bit of part time work chucked in to help things along, I've also enjoyed the lump sum, looking for some more part time at the minute, state pension and bus pass kick in at the end of November

I've not done a days paid work since February 2005, when I was 53 years old. The secret IMO is to work and save for your pension in a rich country (like the UK) and then retire to a relatively poor one (like Greece). But then the wonder of the sunny uplands of Brexit have made that SO much harder to do. The state pension makes a big difference of course, but for the 11 years we were living on the yacht we just had our private pensions.

My eyes were opened in my early 40s when I was made redundant and set off working for myself. That's when I realised I needed to pour as much cash into a private pension as I could afford in order to be able to retire as early as possible. You pack your own parachute....

We're just in it for the emotional roller-coaster...we don't really care who wins or loses (as long as it's not Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Belgium, The Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Luxembourg,..........)
