Optimus V Fan Noise

The person you quoted is obviously waiting for PCS's update which at the moment is not ready hence the reply. I would go with Sparky's post as it has worked for Sparky, Bully and Akerific, the latter of whom also said a few pages back that he/she does not find it so easy to do things like firmware flashes but still got it done and had positive results. But most importantly Marco I would say just wait it out and see what it is like because it may not even be a problem for you. As I said in previous posts, the forum is populated with people who have questions and problems to vent, rarely by the people who love the product and have no problems. The majority of people who have bought the laptop may find it regular, and it may be just the people here find it an annoyance, and even of those people 90% have resolved it in one manner or another (bedding fan, flashing bios linked by Sparky).

Makes a lot of sense, I will wait and see.

I'm thinking of buying this laptop but the problem with the fan is a little disconcerting. Would you advise to continue with my purchase of this laptop despite it's known problems of this fan. Also what are the other negative aspects of this laptop. I've read various reviews and opinions but you can never have too many. Thanks

Hi mate,

personally my only concern is about the fan noise but I have to say that the firmware update mentioned at page 15 of this thread seems to have solved the problem for the most part of people.
The specs of the laptop are really amazing considering the price. Last generation CPU, very powerful GPU and the double HD space is a plus.
My Optimus V should be with me soon, at that point I will post my full review here and hopefully it will be useful for other people who haven't decided yet about the purchase.

Aslong as you don't mind the loud fan then sure, but if in any way you don't like loud fans do not buy - that's all i can say really
because when gaming the fan is still super loud and after i have to shut my laptop lid to stop the fan, so i'm saying the firmware worked maybe 50% it stopped the fan coming on randomly when not doing anything, but if you play a game for 30 mins then come off the fan will go full speed NON stop until you close the lid or restart

A review would be great! You can never have too many reviews. Would you consider doing a review via youtube to see boot time, fan noise, speaker noise, etc?
What memory did you choose? Also what HDD? I'm thinking maybe a hybrid ssd. Looks impressive after the overly priced ssd.

Yeah the pg 15 fix seemed to have fixed that problem so hopefully. I may wait for your review but it's looking more and more tempting.

A youtube video was indeed the idea. I will make a youtube video so you can hear by yourself

I opted for 1x8 GB Samsung, heard that somebody had some compatibility issues with other brands (see the beginning of this thread). For the HD, I already have a 256GB SSD which I am going to use as primary, so I asked PCS to install the default 250gb hd as a secondary. I am not an expert in drives but I know that buying the SSD was probably the best investment I ever did, it really makes a difference in terms of performance. There is a nice comment in the thread a few pages back about SSD and hybrids, you may want to take a look

I am sure eventually Clevo will sort the problem and at that point (even before that to be fair) you are going to have a very fine machine !

i can confirm that the firmware on page 15 has fixed the fan issue for me, i've not heard the fan even come on under normal use now

Good to hear :) if your laptop fan doesn't stop after gaming just close the lid for a few seconds until it stops then re-open :)

I'm unsure if this is related to the bios update on page 15, but since then my 4800MQ will not clock higher than 1.57Ghz, despite being set to high performance, plugged in, and minimum processor state set to 100%

EDIT - Nevermind, bios reset fixed it. Very odd

Hi Guys,
Got my Optimus V a couple of weeks ago and I too have an exceptionally loud fan.
I use Skype for business quite a lot and the fan will randomly blast on during a skype call, not ideal!
Is there any decent solution to this problem yet?

Got mine 10 days ago, honestly I thought much worse, mine is fine, and getting better the more I use it. At the beginning it was loud for no reasons but only sporadically.
I did game a bit with Star wars the old republic, and it is not that bad.
Will keep testing and let you know.

Did you play any games prior to the skype call?
All i can suggest is what's been said on previous pages because Pcspecialist didn't help me with it at all in the end
only this forum thread did

Having to arrange an RMA for my laptop, still won't clock higher than 1.6Ghz, eventviewer error showing "the speed of processor x is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for x seconds since the last report".

This is only since the firmware on page 15

Bummer

Sorry to hear about all these troubles you are having; it seems I was lucky with mine as the fan (which is not shy, let's face it) is not as erratic and annoying as many other users have experienced. Finger crossed, it is going to stay like this :).

Been told the issue is caused by the firmware update on page 15 which is not supported by PCS

I would recommend not installing this firmware.

I hope they are fixing it for you. It's their fault for not updating us or telling us that the Laptop has a known issue before we buy it. Of course we would have to take matters into our own hands to fix the annoyance.

I've been sent a new BIOS by PCS which was installed with no issue. However, i am unable to have Windows 7 install the USB3.0 driver for some odd reason. I've tried the official Intel driver and also drivers from other sites. Its very weird.

EDIT = Got a USB driver from the lenovo website which works

Now that i am back on the official Clevo firmware, my fan is back to 100% full speed again. Wish i had sent this machine back to be honest, but i was advised not to return by PCS as a fan fix was "coming". This was a while ago now..
