Hello y'all.
Ok so I bought this laptop early in the month, but PC Specialist ran out of stock and couldn't build it on time. No worries, they promised to place it on ultra priority and send it as soon as possible, and I can wait for it as I have a functional device for now.
Anyway, here are the specs. I'll create a new post with pics once it arrives:-

NB: I upgraded the RAM from 2133 MHz to 2666 MHz but forgot to change 1x16 to 2x8. oh well, hopefully I can install a second 16gb stick somewhere down the line.

If there's anything you would change please don't hesitate to share (I don't really want to game on this laptop, it's to do 3d rendering, AutoCAD and other stuff on. So storage space isn't really an issue.
Thanks!

How big an effect would you say upgrading from the 2133MHz to 2666MHz has on performance? This is nearly identical to the build I was hoping to get but I’m a bit of a noob. Also is that promotional discount still available?

Nope the discount is over. ended on 2nd dec.
also i haven't got my laptop yet, i have a hardcore gamer friend who promised me the upgrade on RAM speed would be really worth it.

One thing to bear in mind. If you drop the HDD and drop the RAM to 1 x8gb, you can afford the RTX 2060.

You can DIY add another RAM stick or an HDD/SSD any time you like in the future. While you're stuck with the GPU. So there's an argument for getting the most powerful GPU you can reasonably afford to delay the point at which you'll want to replace the laptop for as long as possible.

I'm too late to change my order, (i think you've seen it as you gave it a Thumbs up). Is the downgrade from 2060 rtx to 1660 ti that big of a deal if my main use isn't gaming, but stuff like 3d rendering and autocad and work/study related stuff? I'm studying engineering and need a powerhouse on the go thats why i've gotten a laptop.

If you have the option to amend the order and go with 2666MHz, I would recommend it because it can improve performance in some situations and the cost as a proportion of the laptop isn't very high.

However, the differences can be quite small, and if you already got the laptop and it has 2133MHz RAM, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Moved your post into your original topic as it's helpful context for anyone looking to give feedback

Build looks good :)

I'd have made the same calls on the SSD, the RAM, the warranty, the paste, and the dead pixel guarantee myself.

Hello. Please check this out: - (basically the same, just that I Dropped the 120HZ for 60HZ and changed 1660ti to 2060 as i had nothing else to do with the money. Also the price difference was JUST £30 and the RTX 2060 beats the 1660ti by quite a bit.

The screen change sounds good.

I'm not sure if the GPU is worth it. Versus say a larger or faster SSD. Depends on your workloads and I don't know enough about CAD to say. Depends if you render on the GPU. If you do rendering on the GPU then focus the GPU as you can upgrade storage while the GPU you are stuck with.

thanks, i'll check whether AutoCAD/ASPEN/Python (the main softwarwe i'll be using) is GPU intensive or not.

Just found out I only need at least a DDR4 4GB VRAM GPU lol (but then, if AutoDesk behaves like games producers, that is enough to run, but not enough to enjoy).
the 1660ti was already overkill. I guess i'll just benefit from better quality gaming when i do play (which will be like less than 10% of my time on my laptop).
Point to note, AutoDesk also said that I need a minimum of 8 GB RAM (but users said autocad sometimes nose-dives in performance on this), in case anyone else roams onto PC Specialist looking for a device to run autocad suggest 12 or 16 gigs. thanks!

Hi. I just got my laptop, should I post my review as a continuation of this post or somewhere else?

Wherever you'd like - there's a "Show off your new PC/Laptop forum" where most people put their reviews if you like :)

And thanks for taking the time to look at doing a review!
I'll go post there.

PCS has the best value for money for the specs I got, as you know an RTX 2060 laptop is upwards of £1,500 most of the time.
Least I could do is post a review and help other customers make informed choices
