Two problems with PC

Why do I always get the 'An error occurred, please try again later' message on Youtube videos?

Also, every now and again (every day) while on the internet, I get a strange 'tear' on screen. It's horizontal and is about 1" wide.

Any ideas what causes it?

Not sure about youtube, does it happen with every video every time? Or just on occasion? I get it sometimes when my connection isn't great [video has the kinda fuzz in the background you get when your telly isn't tuned in correctly].

As for the tear, can you provide further details? A screenshot of it, or picture maybe? Is it only when on the internet and then is it related to a browser or game etc? Does it go away if you minimise the program and reappear if you maximise it again?

Oops I meant I can't view videos what members on here post.

I can't really take a screenshot of the 'tear' because it only lasts for 1 second, and I don't know when it'll reappear again.
I've had it for around 2 weeks now.

I don't seem to have issues viewing most of the vids posted on here if they're embedded. Its a little more difficult if the links posted as we're blocked from youtube at work ;)

Can you elaborate on when it occurs? What are you doing at the time? Watching youtube vids/gaming/browsing/etc. Does it occur when using particular programs etc. etc.

Have you recently updated your drivers? If not could be worth a shot, do a clean install of the drivers see if that helps.

Had any trouble when gaming?

I've had that happen before, sometime users will post vidoes but it will be set to private or they have deleted it after a period of time.

If you have the vidoe link i will gladly try it out to ensure that is not just your computer.

Does this happen when you are in game? OR does it happen when your in vidoes?

Also what is the exact model of your Monitor so we can have a look at the specification. Im not 100% understating of it but i believe if your computer is too good for your monitor this can create screen tearing.

For example if you have a computer cablable of 120Hz but your monitor is only 60Hz than you will encounter screen taring. To solve this most game have a function called Vsync which will sync the framerate of the computer with the monitor in other words restricting your output to 60Hz (60FPS) and eliminating or reducing the chances of screen taring.

Updated driver for monitor.
AOC 21.5" Widescreen LED TFT a2250Swda

The videos are on the Dark Souls 2 thread.

I normally get the problem on the internet, either looking on a forum or watching a youtube video.

Just off hand, how do you keep all your hardware and everything else up-to-date on the computer?
Edit: Is there some free software which I could use?

The vids are working for me barring the first one which has been removed for copyright violations apparently.

I must be honest, the only drivers I update are graphics drivers, I tend not to touch the rest unless an issue occurs then I see if they have been updated.

It could be screen tearing as smoke suggested, never occurred to me that it could be the issue. I've never seen it 'outwith' a game before. The monitor seems to be 60Hz (I think) so the max it can display would be 60FPS, if your cards pushing more frames than that, there could be screen tearing issues. You could try to force vsync on through the catalyst control panel (or whatever AMD call it if not vsync).

In the AMD Catalyst Control Center, the Desktop Properties is set to 1920x1080 @60Hz High (32-bit) Landscape.

In the Properties (Digital Flat Panel) it says Maximum reported refresh rate: 75Hz

Not sure how to set the v-sync

Thanks. I'll do this if it does it again. I haven't seen it since turning the computer on today.

Any ideas what explorer.exe is?
Internet Explorer?

What browser you use to access YouTube and is it a) up to date and b) does it have any plugins or extensions installed?

Explorer.exe is not IE, that's iexplore.exe. Explorer.exe is the Windows file explorer and it also runs the desktop (so if you kill the explore.exe task you'll loose the desktop). In Windows 7 and 8 explorer.exe typically restarts automatically if it crashes, should that not happen and you loose the desktop press CTRL+Shift+ESC together and the Task Manager will start. Click on File > Run New Task and enter cmd.exe in the box. A command prompt window will appear and at that prompt you should type "start explorer.exe" (but without the quotes).

Edit: Darn! Rakk beat me to it..... :(

I was just curious about the .exe file.

I use Firefox all the time.

Yes I have flash player up to date.

Under Plugins on Firefox I have the following running -

Adobe Acrobat
Battlelog Game Launcher (I presume this is for Battlefield 4)
ESN Sonar API
Google Earth Plugin
Google Update
iTunes Application Detector
Java Deployment Toolkit (This says is vulnerable ? Update needed???)
Java(TM) Platform SE 7
QuickTime Plugin
Shockwave Flash

The first thing to check then is that your problem is not one of those add-ons, to do that you need to start Firefox in Safe Mode. The quickest way to do that is to ensure that Firefox is not running and then open a command prompt. Enter the command c:\program files (x86)\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode (if you run 32-bit Windows enter c:\program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode) and then click the run in safe mode button on the small dialog box that appears. Firefox will now start in Safe Mode without any of the add-ons running. Check your YouTube and screen tearing issues whilst n Safe Mode. If everything works ok then it's one of your add-ons. So close Firefox and start it again normally, now disable one add-on in turn until you find the problem.

That's a lot of add-ons and the screen tearing might simply be Firefox processing all those add-ons? I'd start by disabing the Java Development Toolkit, that's known to be a problem (I have it disabled on mine).

See how you get on in Safe Mode first though.

I'm running 64bit.

It just did it again. All of the screen jerked.
