Watch Dogs on PC

Anyone seen this game offer 11520x2160 resolution. Thats 25 million pixels. No machine can do that!

so That would have to be 12k then 3 x 4k Monitors in surround.

dam and I thought I was pushing the boat out playing it at 5760 x 1080.

Great article, looks like it's far from being properly optimized.

Not really surprising given Ubisoft's recent track record. But I thought this game was being developed for PC first, and that they worked with NVIDIA. NVIDIA performance is much better than AMD but still hit and miss.

The graphics at the E3 showcase look better than the final product to me. Makes you wonder whether they scaled back when they realized the new consoles weren't up to the job (the delay) and that's pulled the PC release down too.

I've tried playing it at 4K (just 1 screen mind) and although it did run... it wasn't exactly great - then it crashed. Tried to restart it and it simply wouldn't start - had to dial the resolution back down to 1080 (although I might see if I can play it at 1440)

I'm a little disappointed if I'm honest - my first impressions (And they are really first impressions only played for like an hour or so) are that there is still work to do on the basic controls. I decided to use a gamepad to play as using the mouse was irritating - but this didn't solve all of the problems. And as Smoke mentioned earlier, driving it terrible (and there seems to be a fair bit of driving related activities).

Hopefully it will improve as I play more!

It runs like rubbish for me...with 2gb GTX680 sli. Massive swings from from 40-80fps results in a stutterfest at high textures and high settings.

I spent hours fiddling with settings and doing some research last night.

This is where I got:

1) I know I should stay away from ultra textures (3gb vram needed)...but the interweb tells me that people with 3gb 780s can't hit ultra either, because the vram usage is going above 3gb! This would appear to be the main problem. For me, I couldn't hit high textures and get a consistent 60fps, irrespective of the other settings (even low)..and I could see my vram was maxed out. So I went for medium textures and it helped a lot.

2) The AA supposedly also affects the vram, so if you try ultra textures, drop your AA down.

3) SLI is being reported as having a neutral to negative effect, and people have been trying the AC3 profile instead. For me, SLI hardly makes any difference, but I do get a few more frames. Non-SLI was more stable though.

4) Most graphical setting decreases have a 'less than usual effect' on framerate. This was true for me. This apparently is indicative of a poorly optimised game (not quite sure how that works).

When I did play it, I quite enjoyed it, although I think I'll probably fall in line with the good-but-not-great reviews that are knocking about at present. We will see. I'll probably wait until it gets an update.

Haha I should have read this first, this is really good article, and not to blow my own trumpet, agrees with my findings also :)

I couldn't get MSI afterburner to work for Watch Dogs, so I was using FRAPS while in-game. In the screen shots in the article, they are using what looks like MSI afterburner...has anyone got any ideas how to get this to work? My version of Watch Dogs is through Uplay (not Steam). I tried adding the Watchdogs exe to the program list but to no avail.

I know BF4 needs to run in 32 bit mode for MSI afterburner to work, and I believe Watch Dogs is 64 bit only...

i don't own it, although, I can't help but notice there are many games being released in a last year that are in a sense incomplete or in other words buggy. It's a shame really and eventually us PC gamers will stop pre-ordering games because of it.

Its been happening for a few years and is caused mostly by publishers. You can't blame the developers. They work hard, but the publishers are clueless about development time and these days do not give the developers enough time. I guess it can be related to football in a way. You can spend millions on a team of good players but it will take months before they are working at their most efficient.

I thought Ubisoft had figured it out when they gave the developers extra time and delayed the game. Perhaps in this case the developers are to blame if they were allowed extra time

Bit off topic, but this is why I like Blizzard. They develop the crap out of games and release it when it is ready :)

Oh wait, what's that? Oh yes, they are a PC developer (for the most part) :D

Totally agree.

Btw I just had another go at it...it really is shocking with my card(s)...going to give up, although I'm reading that Ubisoft left Assassin's Creed (don't know which one) in a right state and never fixed it.

Can I ask again if any of you know how to get MSI afterburner working in Watch Dogs...I tried adding the exe to Rivatuner and it didn't work. FRAPS is ****e, not enough info. I swear down in that link above you can see it working in the screenshots...

I haven't seen the link with afterburner working but usually you can get most games to play nice with Afterburner by turning the application detection level down to low in Rivatuner; and/or activating stealth mode on there. I havent played this yet, so cant comment on my experience but this usually helps for that problem. :D

Cheers, I hadn't really looked at those settings, so good to know. However, the problem was that MSI afterburner needed updating (despite the program itself telling me I had the latest version. Version 3 seems quite good - they have added CPU monitoring (without having to use the old HWinfo64 and RivaTuner method).

Playing on my gtx680 OC.High Settings without issues.Games runs how it should !!! Smooth :)

Lucky boy! Medium or high textures though (I.e. they are separate from the other options)? And what FPS? Everything I see on the internet says a 2gb GPU will not run high textures.

Just been monitoring using MSI afterburner...can run the game at 50-70fps on medium textures, high settings, 2x TXAA. Ultra works ok too, very little effect on FPS but still get stuttering..can see it's likely a GPU memory problem. The cards (SLI) aren't being utilised at all well...only 70% and running cool at 61c. Weirdly 2x TXAA works better than the other AA options.

Might try 1 card again if can be bothered.

Dont know if its just me but I have been playing the game for a few days now and I can run it absolutely fine at 5760 x 1080 with ultra settings. haven't had any problems with stuttering or lag, no graphical tearing. game just works.

I have an i7 4770k and sli 780s if anyone is wondering what I am running this on.

so in my opinion I don't know what all the fuss is about over a bad release, the game runs well has a great story and looks great.

Just found out that for at least one of the missions you have to be online and connected to Uplay. This game is getting more and more annoying, I leave it offline otherwise Uplay always takes forever to update.

Ubisoft just don't want us to buy their games do they? I don't think I will be any more.

I noticed that there is a tutorial for the online hacking missions (I got it before the first 'driving mission' - Driving is still terrible IMO), if you cancel however Aiden just moves onto the next mission. I'm yet to come across a mandatory mission that needs online access (and hope I don't, or I'll be upset) - I can't seem to connect to other players through uplay at the moment for some reason.
