Watch Dogs on PC

I guess I am one of the few who the optimization doesn't ruin the game for me...it's a pain sure, still a fun game though :)

Dont know if its just me but I have been playing the game for a few days now and I can run it absolutely fine at 5760 x 1080 with ultra settings. haven't had any problems with stuttering or lag, no graphical tearing. game just works.

I have an i7 4770k and sli 780s if anyone is wondering what I am running this on.

so in my opinion I don't know what all the fuss is about over a bad release, the game runs well has a great story and looks great.

It's so annoyingly inconsistent! There are people with Titans who are having trouble...

I don't think I've tried it offline, so will give that a whirl but it'll not help. I will also try the xml edit Rickne - thanks for confirming that makes a difference. I saw that a few times but came to the conclusion that it wouldn't help. :)

after I done the xml edit in the my docs folder the game was smooth as silk on my laptop :)

Can I ask how bad it was before and what settings & FPS you are managing to hit with your 680M?

Just looked up the XML fix again - did you just manually set textures to high or did you try some of other the stuff?

Lucky boy! Medium or high textures though (I.e. they are separate from the other options)? And what FPS? Everything I see on the internet says a 2gb GPU will not run high textures.

Just been monitoring using MSI afterburner...can run the game at 50-70fps on medium textures, high settings, 2x TXAA. Ultra works ok too, very little effect on FPS but still get stuttering..can see it's likely a GPU memory problem. The cards (SLI) aren't being utilised at all well...only 70% and running cool at 61c. Weirdly 2x TXAA works better than the other AA options.

Might try 1 card again if can be bothered.

I noticed that if I have included programs such as NVIDA Bandicam shadow play or fraps, the game begins to slightly cut down. After disconnection, shadow play and Bandicam fraps shows from 80 to 50 frames during the game at high details. Do not change anything. It gives high settings not stirring anything more in the settings. Nvidia control panel v sync adaptive.

I wish the patch was to ditch uplay... i'm yet to be able to connect to an online game... Rubbish.

Was looking forward to it before I realised it was Ubisoft. Wouldn't touch anything from them (especially with Uplay) unless it had perfect reviews. Once (or six times) bitten, twice shy.

Just read about a tweet the lead dev posted on Twitter:

"Watch Dogs can use 3+ GB of RAM on NG consoles for graphics, your PC GPU needs enough VRAM for ultra options due to the lack of unified mem"

So basically it takes advantage of the unified memory such as that on the PS4, where the system RAM is unified with the GDDR5 VRAM on the GPU, as is my understanding. I guess it makes sense for them to do that on these consoles.

Obviously that's not going to work out so well when most PC gamers have cards with 2GB of graphics memory. So the next gen consoles seem to have been their priority.

Does make you wonder though, because of the new console architecture, and the fact that a lot of us play at much higher resolutions than the consoles do, are more and more ports going to start needing significantly more VRAM?

I hope not.

I had the graphics settings on High (not Ultra) and I got some stuttering. Also froze a couple of times. I turned down a couple of settings and it seems ok now.

But just now I got this (which is a problem I got before on another game). (see pic)

I had trouble not being able to connect to UPLay but seems to connect straight away. Also had some online races and hacks disconnecting. Stupid UbiSoft servers!!

Wow thats weird :S What happened to the PC, are you able to alt-tab out of the game into the desktop or is the PC frozen?

No the computer isn't overclocked. I did set the fan to 30% instead of the default 20%.

The GPU has been reaching 70-80 Celcius.

It's the first time its done it since the beginning of this year.
