Who Else Is Upgrading To Windows 10?

Interesting story on Toms hardware. Seems the reason the fresh install won't activate is because we are not supposed to have access to that unless we're windows insiders. But for some reason everyone has access to the page.

Personally mine appears to have downloaded as i've new folders on the SSD system drive, however my windows10 App has now disapeared so no way of upgrading anyway at the moment anyway.

I am waiting on my PC, but I finally got to my grans last night to sort her laptop out, relatively new HP laptop with 8.1.
Did all the updates but the Get windows 10 app hasn't appeared. Not too fussed I shall wait, hope I can still upgrade her laptop even past initial release for free. If not no issues as she only just got used to windows 8.1!

Make sure to fetch all available Windows updates, as the Windows 10 app is delivered via Windows update. Otherwise there are steps you can take to get the app to appear, they are described here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...10-but-i/848b5cce-958b-49ae-a132-a999a883265b - Also be aware that the background tool that scans the PC for eligiblity, might take some time on slower PCs, so it won't appear straight away (10-20 mins) :)

I really love the interface, so much more user friendly than 8, and some nice new features too.
Overall I'm really impressed with it, and will definitely be sticking with it, unlike windows 8.

I can't identify with that. With Start8/10 the interface is virtually the same. In 10 I have less options for solid desktop colour, icon spacing is messed up. In 8 icon text automatically change to black on a light desktop, 10 icon text is staying white on my light grey desktop (that I had to set via a jpeg). Also, the new waste bin is horrible.
I must say 10 is gradually fixing some things by itself over time, like Windows 8 did.

I updated via the MS Media Creation Tool. I had the W10 icon in 8 and was registered for notification but nothing was happening so I used the tool, and download was fast.

How do you log into Windows 10 without typing a password or PIN?! I've turned off the 'Users must enter a password and username to use this computer' but I still have to log in! Pain in the arse.

Did it ask you to enter your password twice? You need to get it to do that.

Yeah. I kinda sorted it. When I unticked the box and clicked apply, it came up with another name (still my one), and it didn't work, until I put in a random password as well. Weird. Because it still logs in I think as the same account. Don't get why I had to input another new random password though!

Is it me or is Windows 10 brighter or something? Really hurting my eyes and head. Windows 8.1 was fine!!

It only shares your wifi password with people on your contacts so when they come round your house they don't need to ask you for your password to use their laptop/W10 phone
you can also turn this feature off.

I think the article raises some reasonable concerns (although I haven't researched further as to the article's veracity) and most people won't know it's switched on. Also, it shares with your Facebook friends by default, doesn't it?

Is your monitor brightness already set all the way down? If so you could try out a free program called f.lux: https://justgetflux.com/
It automatically adjusts your screen brightness/colour based on the time of the day to reduce eye strain - you can customise it to your needs.

Might be just me. Might try that flux thing. I did once before. Does anyone else get problems with the Documents and This PC Windows not remaining in a fixed place as well when you open them? I like to have them situated top left on my screen, but they always move and become more random. Other Windows were fine.
