Not that particular model but I have run Ubuntu on a Defiance. Cannot remember any major problems. Currently everything seems to work better installing in safe graphic mode and staying with Nouveau drivers.
Nvidia drivers have been tricky in the past, log in loops being a regular, although...
I doubt the RAM would be any good, unless it is an exact match it will not work with the RAM in the new machine.
Not sure how many drive slots the Elima has but one option is to get USB caddies, they are quite cheap, and run your old drives from them.
This is a PCS user's forum, the staff do look by but for definite answers you would need to contact them.
They will fully Test the machine with a trial version of W10 which will still be on the machine when you get it, so need to clear all partitions then do a clean install.
RAM position...
It is a real oddity that model, I have put various distros on eight PCS machines machines and never had a complete failure.
Some have been a bit tricky but that was a couple of years back, most of the time it all goes smoothly now.
Was burn within the Trinity at Stroud which makes me a true Gothamite. No idea how that term came about but certainly precedes Batman. If you follow rugby at all, the Stroud Third XV is known as the Gothamites.
The BIOS lock on that model also effected some W10 users and I know PCS were looking at it but the only people who could say for sure would be them.
If you phone there are long wait times because of current crisis but best time is around 09:00 when they open.
Living in Stroud, never actually moved full time to Germany but did a lot of short term contracts there. Decided after redundancy to enjoy myself and retrained as an EFL teacher, that allowed me a lot of German holidays but with work as well it did not eat into my redundancy pay off too much...
Good post Hogfish, one of the trade offs with free and open source software is a lack of manuals but understandable as they do not have the funds the paid for companies have.
Luckily there is a lot more online stuff now, including a good Ardour manual. Plus from my experience a lot more...
To add to the above, they have all gone with two drives which I agree with. You are almost bound to need a clean install of the OS at some point and that will wipe the drive.
Therefore better to have a smaller but very fast drive for the OS and a bigger storage drive, SSDs are best but if it...
Dangerous month for birthdays, remember sending Mum a card from Germany with a note saying April 20th was not a good day to celebrate a birthday here as it was also Hitler's.
Thursday must be a good day for cars, getting mine that day.
Not long got a Hyundai Kona, the car is great but customer service disgusting, including selling parents an unroadworthy car - cannot say more as ongoing legal issues.
Decided to take the financial hit and trade in a less than year...
Made me think of the release of the film, The Madness of King George.
The joke is the film company decided not to call it The Madness of King George III because many, mostly Americans, would start looking for and annoying the Studio with requests for information about the first two films in the...
For drives, you want the fastest for the OS, an m2 is ideal but needs only be about 500 GB, then a bigger storage drive, the 7200rpm HDD is fine but if budget allows an SSD would be better. PCS will automatically put the OS on the fastest drive.
The reason for a smaller drive for the OS is you...
Unfortunately DPD, like everyone, is struggling and they are taking longer. I had machine ready for dispatch on a Thursday morning but it did not arrive until the following Wednesday.
I agree a week is a long time but afraid there is not a lot that can be done. I assume PCS ship in the order...
That was brought up at the time of the initial problem and I am unsure if there was a solution. As I very rarely use W10 I cannot answer. Hopefully there may be someone here with the same model as you who could check it out.
It was being looked at but only PCS could tell you for certain. During the current crisis emails are about a week to answer and telephone wait times can be long, the best time to call is as they open at 09:00.
Sorry could not be more help. If you get an answer could you let us know, likewise if...
Assuming you are in UK, if yes you will get an email from DPD the day before delivery then on the morning of delivery day they will send a one hour time slot.
DPD are usually very good but from personal experience, if your delivery slot is one of the first, that can be 07:00 where I am, they...
