    PCSPECIALIST Chelsea anyone...

Getting proper regional food is something I have really missed during lockdown, have three weeks in Devon coming up and will be off to Cornwall to see family, or more correctly to have a pasty. At the other end of our rock, am looking forward to my next Bridie.

A good pasty is a real treat, traditional ones are great but used to love the beef and stilton from the pasty shop near the office in Gloucester.

    PCSPECIALIST Regional names

Seeing Andjef mention Dripper as another name for Lardy Cake got me thinking about different names for the same thing. I like the name many of my Scottish friends use for dumplings, Doughboys but one of my favourites, although rarely heard these days is for eggs - Cackleberries.

Should you visit Fowlers on the right day, there will be the Farmer's market a couple of minutes walk away. Not been since before lockdown but used to be very good with an excellent butcher.

    PCSPECIALIST Chelsea anyone...

Returning to the Chelseas, one of my favourite buns. There is a bakers in Stroud, now Walkers but a lot of us still call it Fowlers, they only changed name about 40 years ago:) Their Chelseas were legendary and are still very good but do vary. They also do great Lardies, not the easiest to get...

I would check that with PCS, it always was an option but Covid-19 restrictions may mean it has had to be suspended.

    PCSPECIALIST Bread

Have been experimenting quite a bit with different ingredients lately, including some sweet doughs. Did up a mix of dried papaya and pineapple with some fresh pineapple to moisten the dried fruit before mixing, that was very nice, as was the cranberry and cashew loaf.

    PCSPECIALIST Bread

Thought I would add that while the dough hook is superb, there is also the fact the kneading dough can be a tremendously therapeutic excercise.

    PCSPECIALIST Bread

Experimented with some bread today, turned out very nice. Roasted garlic, chestnut mushrooms and red capsicum in a mixture of butter, tahini, sea salt and tarragon. When that had cooled put in bowl and added water, flour, yeast as in standard dough. The dough hook on my Kenwood is among my...

PCSPECIALIST The passing of a legend in motor sport

There have been a few brilliant choices for music to go with sport and as a cricket fan this is another favourite. Many years after that was released, most of Booker T and the MGs, who were session musicians, were in the Blues Brothers.

PCSPECIALIST The passing of a legend in motor sport

One of my favourites as well, I used to love the Colemanballs section of Private Eye. Along with Murray's unique quote, Ted Lowe on Pot Black had a classic with his for those of you watching in black and White the Blue ball is behind the Green - or something like that. As well as choosing a...

PCSPECIALIST Goodbye, ten in a row...

Nearly all the football I have watched has been in Scotland and the refereeing standards are certainly variable but I think FAs everywhere must rethink and appoint referees because they are good and use no other criteria. I say that because one of the best referees I have seen is Morag Pirie...

PCSPECIALIST The passing of a legend in motor sport

Murray Walker was brilliant commentator but also a great fan of motorsport and this love of the game came through in his commentary. Despite having a larger than life character he never allowed his ego to overshadow events. Bill McLaren, Eddie Waring and John Arlott were similar characters and...

As PCS own this site we can only comment on their products, so ok with Vortex but not sure other is PCS. With Currys you have the advantage of quick pick up, whereas PCS are snowed under during current crisis. Downside is Currys lousy customer service. For 1500 you could get a much better...
