Yes, I did actually consider this. It would be one less stage in the journey of the computer, and one less chance for it to be damaged.

But then I wondered what if I picked it up, got it home, and find it's damaged? Could they say 'Well you picked it up. It was all right when it left here?'

I do worry sometimes

Well I guess, if the package was damaged when you picked it up, ya would check it, then decide if want to sign for it. But if the packaging is fine, then ya get it home to find something wrong, you would have to call pcs. But saying that, if it was delivered with the packaging undamaged but the pc slightly damaged. The courier would be long gone. You cant exactly say, "you will have to wait here, while i physically check the contents"

What I'm trying to say is, either way (pick up or delivery) if its damaged first, call PCS and go from there.

I think whatever I decide to do, I will still sign it 'unchecked' or write that in if I am able. I wouldn't expect the driver to hang around while I open it all up. Not reasonable. These guys are given impossible quotas which is why they are always in such a hurry.

I never even sign unchecked, i just have a quick glance over the box/packaging. I've never had anything delivered damaged before. I'm more concerned with them signing it over to anyone in the street or next door, which did actually happen to me, but that's another story.

I have never had anything received damaged either but I have never had stuff from DPD that I can remember. There are one or two stories on here that are worrying - I blame this thread for my paranoia!!

One or two problems in what must have been thousands of deliveries though isn't too bad :)
There is always a chance that stuff will get damaged in delivery no matter who delivers it.

Well what can i say just returned my pc to have a replacment P.S.U and i just had a E-mail to say that my pc case and motherboard has been damaged in transit. Well gutted. I hate couriers.
I was going to order a new £5000 pc but i might have to rethink about that.

P.S The motherboard is three years old (socket 1366) I doubt they will find another one of those. And the case is no longer avaliable. Not sure what to do?. It nearly reduced me to tears the pc cost me £2600.

Now you've made me paranoid again. Let's hope Grimezy doesn't see this.

With all the talk I hear of couriers screwing up and damaging packages, I'm starting to think that they should be whipped everytime they damage a package so they don't let it happen again. People pay good money for something only for some careless dummy ends up breaking it due to their gormlessness, ridiculous.

Haha I love the reputation I've built of being a paranoid woman :L Meh I'm not bothered anymore, whatever happens happens now. I've paid my money, I've cried myself to sleep, I'm over it.

Well, even paranoids have enemies!

My order has been dispatched today! All the good work by my builder, tester, and QC'er and dispatcher is now out of anybody's control except the lads and lasses at DPD.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see a favourable report in this thread? (I am trying to sway the Gods favourably). ;)

Like a negative thread and a positive thread for DPD? That would be pretty good.

Now that's a spiffing idea. Because it would show at a glance how DPD are doing (and DPD management and staff). I am sure PCS are keeping their own stats, but for us punters, we could choose to cheer ourselves by going to the positive thread, or depress ourselves, by going to the negative thread!

This will depend of course, on your own experience. Imagine having a bad experience (damaged goods, non-delivery through non-accidents at the top of the road, etc.) and reading the positive thread with people singing the praises of DPD

What would you do about the existing thread? Split them? Or let it run on?

Just had the delivery email from DPD. 12.35-1.35pm today. Let's hope the package doesn't rattle when it comes

Good luck! Let us know how it goes :)

Certainly shall. Since I want this puter mainly for photo and video editing, what better way to greet its arrival than to set up a camera for vid and have my dslr handy with a 18-200 lens? Should be able to capture the arrival quite nicely with that lot. :devil2:

As long as you don't take pictures of yourself dry-humping the box like on a certain video on the forums I don't mind x)

It should have arrived by now?!

It has indeed. At 1305, dead in the middle of estimated time. Nice driver, asked if I wanted it brought into the house. A mate came round which is why I wasn't quicker here.

It's a bloody big box! The box has a hole in the top of it where something heavy has been put on it (or rather dropped on it). I felt around inside with my finger while the driver was there having brought it to his attention but could only feel cardboard. I couldn't hear anything of a metal or glass nature rattling. Took lots of pictures of the hole, the corner where it had received slight damage (but then that's what packing is for eh?) The packing tape had also been split across the top so I suspect something heavy had been put on top of the box to cause this tape splitting. Despite all this, and praying that Mr Cunliffe had packed it well, I accepted it, signed for it 'Unchecked' and unpacked it.

I have opened the case of the puter and everything seems to be fine, intact, nothing loose, no memory clips unclipped. Everything looks exactly as it should be. I haven't fired it up yet. The monitor is fine. I shall have this running very soon and let you all know.

In summary, my whole experience with PCS and DPD, their chosen courier, is excellent. Now to the plugging in.......

Waits nervously...

I hope that your next reply comes from your brand new PC.

It won't. Or it isn't :)

I have a bundle of stuff I need to fix before I actually use the new puter. Wireless kb and mouse, ethernet cable (which means my old puter will lose the net although I could use my laptop I spose), hard drive from old puter, ssd from old puter. I will run it for a couple of days and see how I go. I shall instal a few progs and check stuff out basically.

I was in a hurry to get the puter because I knew how much time I took getting it up to speed! :wheelchair:
